Damn, Jim. That is a rough go. You have a big heart to take action like that. I am simply happy that the story had a happy ending!
Reminds me of the scare I had with my granddad some time ago. Showed signs of a stroke, got in the truck, and started hauling @ss down I-5. Deep in the night, CEL came on, then battery light came on, and then went off, then came back on. Got there around midnight, around a 300 mile trip. Tended to him and talked to family until around 3 the next day. No sleep since 5 AM the previous day. Left around 3 and got home at 6 or so. Didn't finish up and get to bed until past midnight that time too. Granddad was called home peacefully the next day.
Glad you were able to spend some last moment with your grand dad. Yes, I have been told quite a few times I have a big heart. I would do anything for those kids, and the mom, and they know it. If they didn't, they do now.

Thank you. It gave me closure, which has proven to be rare for me in such situations.
Folks like you are what keeps this world afloat. God bless.
Always seems to be a fire here at Clear Lake the week my family is here.....had to leave early one year when the ash started dropping in us. Hope that isn't the case this year. Feel bad for all the people in lower lake, loss of homes and property....
Finally made it home, I'm glad the good lord decided the way he did, you know some people are in worse shape than I was , don't get me wrong three broke ribs and a bruised kidney was more than I bargained for, but you see helpless people in the hospital in what seems like in more pain than I , just makes you wonder ,then one of my room mates witch was there for free hand out and totally destroyed his side of the room+ the bathroom (witch I nevertheless used) and still wanted stuff for free like food , drinks he even tried to steal some towel, toilet paper , a large roll of disinfectant wipes, when the security came to escort him out they found all sorts of stuff ,plus the ******* left the sink running and plugged up the toilet, I think this guy was real lucky I had broke ribs , other wise he may have been a permanent resident,, house keeping managed to mop up all the water in our and the next room over and the hall
This is just too funny. About 20 minutes ago, my cell phone receives a message telling me my net10# is and then it gives my phone number. So I call my magicJack number and it works. So then I call my friend and tell her my cell phone is working again. About 2 minutes ago, someone knocks on my door, and wants me to upgrade my phone to Safelink wireless. LOL.
I vowed to go on their website every day and apply for a phone, until they tell me something other than "our records indicate you are already enrolled in California Lifeline." So this morning when I tried I got the same message. Then like I said, 20 minutes ago, they turn it on. Go figure.

I hear you Scott. When we went to the ER with the 6 year old, I thought for sure with a temp of 107.8 she would be seen quickly. I guess that was not high enough as it took 2 hours to be seen, and then another 6 to tell us nothing was wrong with her.
Too familiar with ERs from both sides of the fence. Glad to hear that you made it out in one piece and are recovering.
Well, I got the word today. Monday the surgeon is going to go in and fix my busted guts. He found a second hernia during the consult. now for another new experience with the medical establishment. Should be fun getting into and out of the SD the week.
