Hot August 2016 all topic thread
Still don't have my cell phone issue resolved yet either.

I set an alarm last night for 2:01 AM to watch the Perseids. Both the wife and I slept right through the alarm, and that's unusual because she's such a light sleeper. I did wake up around 4:30, and it was still dark, so I went out and watched the appropriate area of the sky for maybe 20 minutes. Zip. Zero. Zilch. Nada. I guess I'm done until next year. Maybe the Leonids in November.
I asked him "How am I supposed to use a urinal?"
He said "That's an old joke!"

Sometimes they will let you call 911 even if your payments aren't current.
Have they given any indication of how long you might be in the hospital?

Seriously, pneumonia isn't good either. (BTDT too many times). Take care and get well soon we are pulling for you.
Scoot, that sucks that you have taken so much damage from that jet ski accident. I know all about ER rooms first hand, and it doesn't seem to make a difference which hospital you go to they are pretty much all the same. (Except the VA hospital which due to the clientele it serves reduces the amount of people "visiting" at any one time). Hope your recovery is very quick!
And to illustrate my point:
Went to Lost Lake yesterday to celebrate the oldest grand daughter's 15th birthday, and one last fling with them before they head off to school tomorrow. Everything went well for the most part until near the end when the 6 year old grand daughter started feeling sick. When we checked her, she was burning up. We kept putting washcloths soaked in ice water on her forehead and exposed parts of her body (she was wearing a one piece swimsuit) We did not have a thermometer with us, so we had to wait until we got home. At that time, 8:30pm, she was running a temp of 103.7. Decision was made to take her to the ER. We got there around 9pm, and her temp was still over 103. After waiting several hours they finally took her in to get checked, blood work, urine test, x-rays etc. It wasn't until 5:30am that they gave the results, and said there is nothing wrong with her. They suspect she caught a viral infection, but it must have been a minor one to leave the body that quickly. She was feeling fine by then and just wanted to go back to sleep.
We had tried giving her children's ibuprofen at the lake but she promptly vomited that back up. We did manage to get her to take, and keep down, some medicine at the house when we got back, and I don't know if the hospital gave her any medicine while she was there or not. Since the hospital stay was so long, she was able to get in some sleep while waiting. That gave her little body a chance to fight whatever it was that made her sick. I thank God for healing her so quickly, and I am sure what little medicine she did keep down also helped some. However, ultimately He was the one that did it, and I will be eternally grateful.
Thinking back on the hospital trip, it must have been funny to see me an overweight (314 lbs last time I checked) disabled person (my lower right leg is about 1.5 times the size of my left, due to two different accidents) hobbling down the center of the hospital with a 6 year old swimsuit clad girl in my arms. Neither myself, nor her mother had ever been to this hospital before, and wouldn't you know we arrived at the wrong side. By the time I got about 80% of the way to the ER entrance, I was panting like a race horse, and had to put her down. Luckily for us, a staff member came out of a nearby room, and I asked for a wheelchair and some assistance. While they took her away I sat down and waited for my heart attack to arrive. Thank God it never did, and the same staff member came back and gave me a small bottle of water. I was already dehydrated from the Lost Lake trip, and was not even going to stay over at the house originally until the grand daughter's temp was taken and the high reading changed all that.
So that is how I spent my Saturday, and partial Sunday. I woke up at 5am Saturday in order to get a good spot at the Lake, and I did not get back to my house until 6am Sunday morning. I did catch some sleep at the hospital, but not much and never more than a couple of hours at a time. Being sick with worry makes it hard to sleep. And that ER waiting room is like a meat locker. Freezing. So eventually, I waited in the car. All seems to be well, I have not heard anything since this morning, but she was feeling good when I dropped her off, so I think she is still feeling that way.
