We topped out at a very comfortable 76 today at 8:30 AM. The on-shore wind kicked in and we were at 67 by 11 AM. It switched around again, and now we are at 71.

Huh, 71 is what it was when I left the house for work this morning.

Finally able to open the windows now and let some outside air in. Been a good summer in that I have not had to wear a respirator to go outside. An asthmatic legacy of heredity and firefighting.

Another thought, anyone here had a hernia repair surgery? I'm going in for the consultation on Tuesday and wondering about the recovery time and limitations. I've heard in the hospital for a couple of days and several weeks before returning to work and others say outpatient and back to work in three days.

How much lifting do you do while working?

I had hernia surgery when I was 6 weeks old. Believe it or not, I don't even remember it...

Seriously, I found out that I have a very minor hernia a couple years ago. The doc considers it "non-serious", and that it would be a simple, easy surgery, but very elective because it is not in a sensitive area. None-the-less, he thought that it would involve an overnight at the hospital, and 2-3 weeks of recovery.

So I think it depends on exactly where your hernia is, and what they have to do to correct it. Surgery in general has changed a lot in the last 5-10 years.

Well,

Work varies from desk work to moving 50lb samples regularly. This is a Rt side of the groin that has been getting worse over the last couple of months. I am definitely getting tired of being in pain all the time along with the limits on my activities

When I had my hernia surgery it was supposed to be an outpatient thing, but ended up being a hospital stay of 3 days. After I was out, it was very painful to do anything for about a week. Then it (the pain) gradually went away. Mine was a stomach hernia though, not on the right side. And I agree with the above, it depends on the hernia, and also the person. Each body reacts differently.

As for the back flip in a wheelchair, he!! will freeze over before I attempt that.

I retired with 32 years firefighting, federal fire. Got COPD to prove it... At least I have proof, eh? LOL. I feel your pain. There's been quite a bit of smoke over here on the Eastern side of the Sierras. Been having a bit of breathing trouble the past couple of weeks.

Anybody go outside last night/this morning to see the Perseid Meteor Showers? Wow! Nice light show. Never seen so many. It was worth setting the alarm for 1:00 am, and the rough wake up this morning.

Didn't even know about them. However, I was up at 2:22 am because the new neighbors across the street had their stereo blasting, and their door wide open.

We were out around that time (maybe more like 12:30), and we saw a few (4 total I think). But the moon was still up and washing out the sky a bit. We were out there for maybe about 20 minutes, and we were tired. So perhaps that was a factor too.

It should still be happening tonight. Right?

Yep, sure did Tim. I set the alarm for more like 1:30 and stayed out for about 5 mins and saw several "high quality" meteors.

Ironically, that is not possible at the moment because my free government cell phone has been shut down, and I found out this morning, my magicJack phone was not working. I have been able to get the magicJack working thanks to an internet chat with their support, but I am still getting the run around from Safelink Wireless. Already spent 3 hours Monday, and another 2 hours yesterday (until my cordless phone's battery went dead LOL) trying to get it turned back on but they keep telling me I am not qualified, and to contact California Lifeline. When I do, they tell me there is no problem on their end, and the problem is with Safelink. So, I have been without a cell phone for 5 days now,

Jim

How is everyone tonight. Missed the showers last night, I just forgot & went to bed about 11:30pm.
We are heating up for a few days it looks. The NOAA site says we will be 100+. Not hot by Fresno standards, but warmer than I like.
