When it rains, it pours. Not only do I have to move, but now when I put my foot on the brake, the car pulls to the right, and something is wrong with the gas mileage. I filled up the tank three days ago, and it is already below the half way mark, and I only put 100 miles on it.
Sorry to here Jim , as a Vet your rights are more than just a 30 day notice, plus the owner or leaser has to find you a place with the first and last month payment that they will have to pay, go have a talk with a attorney pro bono, can you smell fuel or see it leaking from the car and or fuel lines?, somebody may have stuck the Oklahoma credit card on ya.
The VA is helping with a temporary housing place, not sure if I can get the owner to put me up in a different apartment, but it doesn't hurt to ask. As for the car. The CEL is on, but that is for the faulty MAF, and it has been on for months. The engine runs fine. Smooth as ever. I have a locking gas cap to prevent gas from being stolen, but it does not lock automatically. I will have to go out and check to see. I can't think of any other reason for the poor mileage. I don't smell gas, it runs fine, and I am assuming the cap is locked. I park very close to the wall on the passenger side so I can get the door open on drivers side without hitting car next to me. So the next time I go somewhere. I will have to check the gas cap.
The only way to really check your gas mileage is to fill to the brim, drive it most of the way down, and fill to the brim again. Divide miles driven by the number of gallons put in the 2nd time to get the true data. Relying on a gauge is not the way to have any accuracy at all.
We have had perps cut the fill neck behind the cap and siphon fuel that way, along with one who took a cold chisel or screwdriver and pierced the tank to drain fuel. These happened outside the office in broad daylight.
Might have a grandkids get underneath with a camera to see.
I reset the trip odometer to zero when I filled up, so I can fill up again, and check the mileage. I would need a grand kid to crawl under to check as there is no way I could get down under the car anymore. Those days are gone since the last accident.
first post in a month here. Jim why are you moving? other than bedbugs I thought you were a happy camper. Sorry for ? but no time to reread entire month.
I am moving because HUD cancelled the contract with the owner because they did not get rid of the bed bugs after two sprayings. So, with the contract cancelled I would have to pay full rent if I were to stay. If I could afford full rent, I would not need Section 8.

Where are you getting your information from Scott? I have not heard of Vets getting different treatment from being forced to move due to an HUD contract being cancelled, however, I will check into it. I will contact my SPC case worker and see what he says regarding this. Common sense would dictate that if the contract was cancelled because of an owner problem the owner would have to make it right. However, since when does the government use common sense?
From a homeowner that had a Vet section 8 on his property renting one of his units, took the owner 11/2 years to vacate him of course the attorney hands were tied because of this policy , and the guy got to stay until requirements we're meet , I believe this is how it went , 1. The property owner had to find him a Section 8 apt or home 2. The owner had to pay first and last months rent plus deposits, 3. Not sure there's a # 3 I believe the guy had to find people to help him move the owner had his grandson help, the process was long and put the remodel way behind, I do know California has this law, like I said before Jim go find an Attorney pro bono now don't wait until they stick a lock on the door.
