Today is the day the pest control people return for a follow up bed bug spraying. I have only seen a handful of the little critters since the last spraying, so hopefully, this will take care of them for good. I am tired of getting everything packed up in boxes and heavy duty trash bags, but it will be well worth the effort if this gets rid of them.
We did a medium density knock-down. It looks pretty good seeing as the ceiling was originally nailed up, and a couple of the panels had dropped a 1/4" or more. We propped them up with a 2x4 on the end of a longer post, and screwed them in. It was kind of waverly when we started, and a little expert application of mud smoothed it right out.
previous owner had also built 1x3 frames around the light openings (they were florescent lights in recessed boxes). A couple years ago we pulled the fluorescents, and replaced with recessed HALO LED lights. The LED lights were great, but the stupid frames sort of messed up the look. So yesterday & the day before, we pulled those HALOs down, adjusted the brackets, and re-mounted them so they would be flush with the ceiling. Then we added a third row (it's now 3 rows of 3 lights, for a total of 9 lights), and mounted the new ones flush too. We have only been running one or two lights while we're painting, but we can tell it's really going to light up the kitchen.
Pretty amazing. The florescent lights were 4 x 40 watts for 160 watts, and they were not dimmable. The LEDs are 9 X 6 watts for a total of 54 watts, AND they are dimmable. The dimmer has an adjustment so you can adjust the low setting way, way down. I imagine these lights on the dim setting is using less than 10 watts.
TGIF Nor Cal. Bed bug spraying went off without a hitch yesterday, and was even two hours early due to a couple of cancellations. Now comes the "put everything back where it belongs" part of the ordeal.
We have an apparent thermal inversion happening here. Overnight low temp was 71, and it climbed to 78 in the last 30 minutes.
We continue on our kitchen rebuild task. Cabinets going in today. Minor issues because our sink cabinet is 45 degrees from the adjacent cabinets. Things don't seem to be intersecting the way they should. It's OK. We bought cabinets undersized so we can shift & fill as required.
