Beautiful sunny day with a current temp of 59 degrees. A bit smokey to the south with ash falling and an expected high of 65 here along the coast.
With a slight breeze of 6mph, and this weekends forecast showing more of the same moderate temps, the peninsula will once again be filled with traffic with people coming from the Bay area, the East Bay, the South Bay, and the Central Valley trying to beat the heat. Even when we are all fogged out, they come! LOL!

LOVE the coast! I spent the day in El Granada yesterday, and I think it topped out at 60 or there-abouts. When I got home, it was 89 in the shade.
This morning was looking like it was going to be another toasty one, but the wind shifted to on-shore right about 10 AM. So we just hit 89 at 9:30, but now (11:10) it's down to 87, and looks like it won't climb much more.
It's never dull living in the Santa Cruz Mtn's, eh Glue? A couple of days ago I had what I think was a garter snake, might have been a racer, slither under both feet while I was holding one end of a couch. It turned around then slithered OVER both feet being sure to touch the ankles..
Then last night this sucker was in the wrong place at the wrong time. To me a rattlesnake is a nuisance, and they get killed on sight. Ever since I paid 2k to get my old dog Daisy patched up, they are on the zero tolerance list!
I hate rattlers. I have killed them with rocks, sticks, bows, shotguns, pistols, hammers, shovels, my truck, and even stomped one to death with my foot.

The wife would not be happy if we dispatched all our snakes. This year we've only encountered 3 I think. All of those have been down on the driveway 100+ feet from the house. Those we just leave alone, or shoo them off the driveway.
If they are up closer to the house, we snab them with some tongs like this: (Standard Tong 40"). We stuff them in a locking plastic trash can, and move them ___way___ down the driveway (like 1/2 mile from the house).
Our philosophy is that they eat mice, and we dislike the mice more than the snakes.
We do have one other exception. We've had this really big rattler that took up residence in our pump shed. He was Mr. Jumbo; maybe almost 2" in diameter at his mid-section. I don't know how long he is, because he's never uncoiled himself or rattled, or threatened anyone. He just sits quietly in the corner looking for mice. We've left him completely alone, because he must just be super docile, and never threatened anyone. We figure that's how he got so big. We had a local plumber (Terry) working on our pressure tank system, and I noticed Mr. Jumbo in the corner. I told Terry about him, and Terry replied "He's OK, he's not bothering me, I'm not bothering him."
Glad I'm in Hawii, no Snakes here at the moment, but come Tuesday I'll be back to reality, for some reason this year the farm has an influx of gofer snakes they get big and ugly , thank Gawed no Rattlers
Snakes aren't much of a concern for me. We get the occasional rattler around here, but I think there are too many predators around here to let them proliferate.
Garter and Gopher snakes are awesome, and help keep the rodent population in check.
Greetings Everyone from the Nevada Chapter.
I was born in Santa Cruz & the summers are not the warmest time of the year as I remember my mother saying. But that was a hundred years ago.
My brother lived above Felton by (Felton Empire) & the difference in summer weather is big as I remember.
Getting a lot of smoke up here this morning. Guess it makes sense with the wind from the south. I'm happy it's cooler, but could do without the choking air.
