Morning all, beautiful day so far. We get to head home for a buddies wedding today, then spend some time with my family, maybe help dad get some stuff done around the farm.

I started doing some calculating to see how things were looking financially for buying a vehicle. Looking at something compared to my truck. Figuring a cost of diesel at $2.50, average mpg of 15 on the truck, expected mpg of 45 (in this case, on a jetta) at the 2500 miles a month or so we have been averaging, it would be ~$278 savings. A good chunk of a payment saved but it would mean we're still spending an extra ~$200 out of pocket I'm sure. The biggest problem is I can't just park my truck, I like how it drives and I have too much stuff in it that I use all the time. I don't mind that, putting the miles on the truck doesn't bother me, the fuel cost is just getting to me a bit.

Oh well, everyone have a great saturday!

Good morning everyone. Hannah's surgery yesterday went well, hopefully going home today. This place certainly doesn't have my favorite accommodations, but they try.

Your fuel cost isn't bad Ethan...remember a couple of years ago it was almost double that?

Good morning fellas!

Car show was good but not great. A lot of cars that were here last year did not come back this year. Also not many Mustangs!

Anyone know anybody that does/likes bodywork or painting?

I am currently putting on about 50 miles a day for work. It seems like I am getting a lot of extra miles on though from going other areas. I changed oil 5/18 at 256k and I'll be due by Monday at the rate I'm putting miles on for the 5k oil change.

I'd like to find a diesel jetta or something like that but I don't know how easy that will be.
I got an 04 wagon Jetta TDI I will sell you. 189k. Last I checked I got 33-36mpg. Does need some work. Not sure if I will sell that or the focus wagon

Half Ton lawn roller project DONE!!!!
Pics are of my neighbor and partner in this process, pulling the roller behind his vintage John Deere lawn tractor...
While it did not take all the lumps out of our yards, it did a great job of taming them down.
Springtime may be the better time to do this, but we decided to take action now.
It took 12 60# bags of mortar mix and a few evenings of mixing, scooping and stuffing it down the 1-3/8" access hole.
We're calling this project a success!!!!

You won't have to worry about anyone stealing your roller now!

I have tomorrow off to pour the second half of my driveway, but it looks like rain so I'm putting it off until Tuesday.

The first half turned out nice.

Quite a project Randy! Does that thing come as a kit that you poured cement into, or a custom build?

Randy, try it after a good soaking rain. It should help to take the lumps down too. Spring is the best time to do it otherwise. I call it a success also!

Second half...

I don't think we have a thing to worry about regarding theft... We can barely move the thing without the tractor...
Nice concrete!!!!

Thanks... No not a kit. It was a water-filled lawn roller that I bought on CraigsList a few years ago. When filled with water it weighs ~500#.. It did very little for the lawn regardless of how much rain we had.. In order to increase its effectiveness, we needed to increase its weight. I first thought about loading it with sand, but I figured that the plastic ends may not be able to take the weight. That's when I came up with the plan to fill it with cement - actually mortar mix. The mortar would harden and would provide the support around the axle that the plastic ends alone would not give. 12 sacks of mortar mix later and we have a heckuvaheavy lawn roller!

Thanks.. Since we just got 3/4" a few hours before we rolled and roughly 4" of rain over the last week, we thought it was worth a try... I'll mow tomorrow when I get home from work and hopefully the lawn will be smoother...
