We got 1-3/4" of rain but the winds were the worst... I was standing against the west wall of the house at the patio door and the wind was actually moving the wall!!!
Here's a pic of the back of my house and the tree that got damaged out front. Not sure what kind of tree it is and am thinking that the main trunk is so compromised that it needs to come down.
Thoughts?

I wouldn't even think about cutting the tree down for that. Cut the part off that broke off and leave it. See how it goes after that. You can always cut the tree down at another time if need be. There is a lot of the trunk left so I am sure it will handle everything just fine.
Maybe you're right.. I wasn't going to take the whole clump out, just that one big trunk. I'll take another look at it and see if there is any damage to the other side that I did not take pics of..

What kind of tree is it - does anyone know?
I certainly wouldn't take the whole thing out. Even if another storm comes long and does blow it over, its not like its next your house or anything else it can hurt if it completely falls over. It looks like some sort of maple tree to me according to what the leaves look like.
I was gonna say Maple as well Randy. I also would just clean up the trunk and leave it. Trees heal up pretty good. Might not hurt to get the stuff for coating over it to protect it.
Good afternoon everyone, hope everyone's having a good day. Sure is nice outside!
I've been hanging around the hospital all day, looks like my wife won't get discharged until tomorrow evening at the earliest. Hannah goes in for her shunt revision Friday morning, and hopefully home sometime the following day.
Work has been classy about all of these last minute changes, I'm submitting a leave form for the rest of the week.
Randy if you haven't already cut the tree up, I would cut it about where it broke off and leave as much bark on the tree as you can. It can be bent back up and tied to the good part of the tree and should keep it from dying. It is a Maple for sure but not sure which species. Try to salvage it first before cutting it down.

I didn't see your note in time...
I cut it about 1/2 way up the break... I will see if I can use a ratchet strap to pull the rest of it up and then use some sealer on the break..
Will snap a pic tomorrow..
Day two of second shift is over, pretty much 2 to 1 with drive time included. Working on getting used to it but so far can't sleep late enough in the morning.
I hope things go alright for you Tom, not entirely sure of what your family has going on but I know even routine stuff can get tiring and problematic fairly quickly.
All the humidity is building up for another good storm by the looks of the light show to the west on my way home tonight.
