Happy Monday guys. Sitting here at Cub Scout day camp keeping an eye on things with a pair of SD 250s parked next to me. The minions show up tomorrow morning so resting up before hitting the ground running at 0630 tomorrow.
How did it work out Jim? Hopefully the idiot can pay you back, I would stress to him that you are first in line before the fines etc. Kinda doubt he ever paid old fines hence the warrant
Well, I got my car back. However, the tow company lied to me earlier today when I called to verify how much it would be. The stated a charge of $653.50. When I got there, they said it would cost $788.50 and there would be an additional "gate charge" of $96.50 because we got there after hours. They closed at 5pm and I called to ask if they would stay until 5:10pm, they said yes, but I could not get down there until 5:27pm. However, the owner of the company waived that fee, but it was still $788.50.
And to top it off, one of the Nevada truck club members had sent me $50 via PayPal, and I was going to use my PayPal debit card to cover $50 of the bill. However, my debit card was expired. So I had to put an extra $50 on my own debit card, and that made me overdrawn. (Only by $4.58) So I borrowed $5.00 from the girlfriend of the guy who caused this mess and deposited it in the bank. Now however, I am broke, literally, until the first of July. So, I will try one of those payday loan companies to see if I can get enough to tide me over.
Since Randy gave me $300, I figure he still owes me $488.50. However, since he is in jail, and will be there a minimum of 2 months, I doubt I will get it any time soon. Still, at this point in time, I am just glad I did not lose the car, and in the future, will NOT be loaning it out to anyone.
It is interesting that the only reason he has an outstanding warrant is because he missed his last month of required probation. He moved up here, and was going to get a ride down to check in but his ride flaked out on him. Then he made the stupid decision to just stay up here until he got caught. I am not mad that this happened as I see it as a wake up call for me to not loan out my vehicle. And it is a wake up call for him to get this probation thing taken care of.
Also, he needs to cut down on his drinking, and spending two months in jail will certainly do that. LOL I would be willing to bet that if he only spends two months in jail he will get his job back at Zacky Farms, because he is a good worker there, and they were getting ready to promote him. They have such a high turnover there I would bet they would jump at the chance to get him back. It is hard physical work and most new employees don't last a week, much less four months...
I agree 100% about nobody being in the intersection when Randy blew through it at 60mph. It is interesting to note, that Hannah's brother insisted on the kids being in his car, instead of mine (with Randy). If he did not think Randy was sober enough to drive, someone else should have driven. Hannah offered to drive my car, but I am told he got offended at that. Better to be offended and home safe, then arrogant, and in jail...
Hindsight is 20/20 of course, and it did not dawn on me that had Randy hit someone it would have been my fault for letting him use the car, AND my insurance would not have covered the accident as I am the only covered driver. It could have been much worse. I thank God nobody was in that intersection, and Hannah's kids were not in the car with him.
I have applied for, and been approved for a payday loan, so I will have enough money to make it to next payday. Things will be tight for awhile, but all things considered, it could have been much worse.
Jim, hope things keep getting better for you. Learned the same lesson years ago.
Enjoying a cool evening sitting outside the travel trailer in the parking lot at our local LDS Stake while providing overnight security for Cub Scout day camp. Temps are down a bit from last year in that we are not looking at triple digits this week.
