Maybe I should update this thread a bit. I have been posting in another thread. I was reassured that the bore looks pretty decent, and replacing the piston may be the way to go. I found an engine hoist and engine stand on craigslist, both for $80. The guy was divorcing and had to get all his stuff out, I scored. Was back on craigslist and found an ad for NOS pistons for fe 360/390. The incredible part is thst it has been up for more than 30 days AND it is .040 bore, which is what I need. I will be pulling the engine. As long as there is no major damage to the block, I will reuse what looks good and go from there.
Would you buy 4 bumps and 1 dent for $1700.00? I inventoried each using what I thought local prices for individual parts would be. Just looking at big parts, not odds and ends.
No dought these will be scrapped unless someone takes them. I was really hoping he would not accept my offer but I think he did.
There is enough solid body panels etc. to build one long bed truck.
3 nice grills and a 68 that is rough.
69 1 ton 4x4 390 4 speed dump bed complete
69 FE? 2wd complete 4 speed nice trim
68 good body only/ no engine/trans
70 cab and frame...junk
76 360 4wd 4 speed complete but no bed body is toast
Another 78 SCAB 2wd 351 rebuilt. Body is nice/ partially disassembled and includes all aluminum to build flatbed. I figured a value of 1500.00 which might be a bit high.
Opinions welcome.
If I had the room , YES . from what you listed , I see it as a money maker . Also FE motors are getting harder to find so price on those will only be going up
Well, I was picking up a set of pistons, then wad going to drive out and get the inserts. In usual craigslist fashion, the guy texts me that someone already picked em up! He said his son sold them while he was sleeping. Lol, ok, blame it on your son, shows great character.
Anyway, so I bought a grill on the way back instead. I have been eyeing it on cl for awhile, but hard to pull the $200 trigger.
lol She likes Chevys , I would have prefered a Ranchero of any year 64-71
But it's for her not me . I had a 79 Elcamino back in the 90s it was a good car/truck for a chevy.
we also got this for real cheap ! needs some work Carb is gummed up from sitting for 5 years but still drove it home 10 miles with out any issues .
didn't get busted by the water police ,thank god
Current plans to hop it up swap in a 90s LS1 fuel injected motor
current 305 makes 150hp
LS1 makes 300hp and will still be 100% reliable
If we can't find an LS1 then I'll find a 350 4 bolt out of a truck of same year and build that as follows .
mild cam (roller)
9.5:1
edlebrock aluminum heads
small block chevys are cheap to build compared to Our Ford FE's
