I definitely cant keep it where it is if it is not moveable. If I did get the block out and take it to a machine shop, I am into it $750-$1000 just to get it back to driveable.

I think I am going to accept the loss and call a salvage yard.

It's a sad day at sea. Hate to see a bump going to the salvage yard.

piston looks like it might have been a casting flaw . you can see the texture down in the missing area .

If it was me, I'd place an ad in C/List auto page for what a JY will give you,
or more. May be theirs a young man who's looking for a summer project with his Pop to do.
So it won't go to the crusher

salvage yard will give you maybe $500.00 and another bump will disappear from the Earth. Put it on Craigslist you have nothing to lose .

Any chance you could jack the engine high enough to get the oil pan off. The remove the flawed piston, check the cylinder bore and replace that piston if every thing else look good?

if motor is out, just get a honer $25 ish and deglaze cylinders toss in new pistons , new head gaskets and put her back together . maybe have $100-$150 invested then you could sell truck for a decent price .
If I was closer and wife wouldn't divorce me . I'd come take her off your hands

Maybe I should update this thread a bit. I have been posting in another thread.

I was reassured that the bore looks pretty decent, and replacing the piston may be the way to go.
I found an engine hoist and engine stand on craigslist, both for $80. The guy was divorcing and had to get all his stuff out, I scored.

Was back on craigslist and found an ad for NOS pistons for fe 360/390. The incredible part is thst it has been up for more than 30 days AND it is .040 bore, which is what I need.

I will be pulling the engine. As long as there is no major damage to the block, I will reuse what looks good and go from there.

Mikes 68 F100,

You have been giving me great input in the 390 engine section, lol. I keep posting my steps there so I keep getting guidance.

Would you buy 4 bumps and 1 dent for $1700.00? I inventoried each using what I thought local prices for individual parts would be. Just looking at big parts, not odds and ends.

No dought these will be scrapped unless someone takes them. I was really hoping he would not accept my offer but I think he did.

There is enough solid body panels etc. to build one long bed truck.

3 nice grills and a 68 that is rough.

69 1 ton 4x4 390 4 speed dump bed complete
69 FE? 2wd complete 4 speed nice trim
68 good body only/ no engine/trans
70 cab and frame...junk
76 360 4wd 4 speed complete but no bed body is toast

Another 78 SCAB 2wd 351 rebuilt. Body is nice/ partially disassembled and includes all aluminum to build flatbed. I figured a value of 1500.00 which might be a bit high.

Opinions welcome.
