manual 4wd shifter

I cannot locate a picture of where the manual 4wd shifter mounts up to the transmission.

I am finishing up 4wd'ing my F550, but am not exactly sure how the shifter bolts up. Can someone take their boot and bezel off and take a couple photos of how the shifter mounts to the 5R100W by any chance please?

The transfer case is where the shifter mounts too, and it has to be a manual shifter transfer case. The transfer case bolts to the transmission without the tails haft section. Have you got a transmission wand transfer case already?

I have the transfer case bolted to the transmission already. It is a NP271 manual shift case, came with the shifter out of a F350.

The bracket to mount the shifter bolts to the transmission housing as far as I can tell. The rod attaches to the lever on the x-fer case. The bracket has 2 holes that line up perfectly with 2 threaded bosses on the transmission case, which lines up perfectly with the panel which I just removed from my floor pan.

My issue is, the bolt I have does not thread into the bosses. It is a 9/16-12 shoulder bolt (the bushing for the shifter rides on the shoulder), and was removed from a F350 as is. It goes in 2-3 threads and gets super tight, i.e. - wrong thread pitch or size. But, it HAS to be a shoulder bolt. Every other bolt on this truck is metric though, which puzzles me more.

So are my threads just that messed up and I need to chase them out?

Am I trying to thread it into the wrong holes? (I doubt this because everything lines up the way it does. There is no way this bracket mounts to the Xfer case)

Or do I have the wrong bolt?

It doesn't sound like the right bolt, but perhaps somebody can chime in to help you. Maybe Yahiko who has put in a transmission or run6.0run would know? Sorry I can't help. But I think you are right to ask for help, wouldn't want to chase those threads and then find they are screwed up for the correct bolt.

I appreciate the help.

That's why I wanted to see a picture of a manual shifter installed. It will help in two ways.

1) so I can see exactly how it's all installed
2) what kind of bolts theyre using. I can tell a lot from just the head of the bolt

All it would take is someone to remove the 4 screws from the bezel, lift the boot/bezel up and take a pic or two with their camera phone.

I do hope I have the correct year. 2003 F550?

Here are some PDF you may find helpful.

If I got the wrong year or you need others just let me know
and I'll see what I can dig up for you.

Enjoy

EDIT : Found one more PDF for you on linkage adjustment.

Thank-you so much Yahiko!

I was able to find pictures of a shifter installed in a truck as well to verify that I have the correct bolt. I am going to chase the threads on the trans and run a die over the bolt threads to clean them all up and install.

I am assuming that the "transfer case control lever
assembly pivot bolt" is the big shoulder bolt.

Watch the threads you have right and left hand if I recall correctly.

Sean

EDIT : Looks that they are all standard metric threads.

chased the threads on the transmission with a 9/16-12 bottom tap and the bolts went in smoothly!

Thanks for the confirmation that I had the correct bolt and mounting holes. They are 9/16-12 threads, both of them.

Now all I need to do is swap the flange yoke on my driveshaft and my 4wd swap is done! Flange yoke was unexpected issue as well, mine's a diff bolt pattern/size than the one on the x-fer case. But I digress.

I appreciate all the help!!
