I had a vibration on my truck that I would feel on the driver side floor boards. I had too much going on to check out it. Today driving home from work I had the radio off and I thought what was humming from front tires wasn't. Figured maybe front wheel bearing was going. So i jacked up my truck and shook tire. I had play. Took of tire and saw play what I am pointing at. Can that cause a humming if worn. i dunno maybe pressure on a wheel bearing and/or axle bearing? 04 f350 4x4 crew long bed. Has anyone changed one?
That's an upper ball joint. There is also a lower one. If worn the tire will "tip" inward and cause uneven tire wear and may cause a pull. If one is bad I recommend doing them all while it's apart.
No uneven tire wear Ican see. but there is play in it. I just noticed the lower bolt on brake caliper doesn't slide either causing uneven brake pad wear
Quick test. Jack front end up so tires are off the ground and take
something to use as a lever and fulcrum. Stick end under tire and
have helper do the lifting while you watch the ball joints. If you
see a lot of movement time for new ball joints.
Hub bearing you can usually see with just your hands. The ball joints are usually more difficult and many times missed. Jacked up and a pry bar under the tire for levereage is a must on every check.
I did. I can see the play in the ball joint. But I hear a noise, I can't describe easily. I thought it was the hub but the ball joint moves. The bottom pin holding the brake caliper is suppose to float or is that fixed? The upper moves freely but the bottom one doesn't , was thinking that may cause the noise and unusual brake pad wear.
You know there's a bad upper ball joint. The caliper should move on the pins. That can be addressed when it comes apart. The noise may be a bad or rusted ujoint. Again that can be addressed when you do the balljoints.
Nope couldn't get that lucky. When you think the problem is on one side ....check the other . My project for today. Didn't realize there are 4-6 types for 6.0
