I want to know if I may need to plan to upgrade my alternator. I plan to add the following:
*Sherwood Amplifier - only 35 Watts X 5 & 100 Watts X 1 - 6 ch. but a big in wattage at all.
*4 or 5 Roof Lights (eventually) Fog style
*Power Inverter for 120v Outlet
*Air Compressor (possibly) in rear barn door for pumping tires.
That is all I can think of at the moment. With this type of load is the X stock alternator able to handle without upgrading to one with more amperage output?

amp 35wx5 = 175watts /12volts = 15 amp
fog lights ( need to be at bumper level not on roof but that is another issue ) = ? amps
power inverter = ? amps
air compressor = ? amps
fill in the rest of your desired accessories then add up the total amp draw to plan out your system.
the practical limit of your alternator or if it will handle the amp draw of your system is really how many accessories you plan on using at the same time.
adding that stero ampplifier and some lights should not tax a stock 110 amp alternator.
OP which Engine and alternator do you have? I don't see a signature.
I have the 6.8L V-10 not sure which alternator yet. I have to get out tthere and take a look did not have the time as of yet.
Pirate thank you for the formula and just an FYI the roof mount lights tthat are round similar to the jeep style lights are called Fog Style lights. I aware of the fog lights that are used on the bumper. I have been researching all the accessories I'm thinking about adding and wanted to make sure I had the necessary alternator amperage to sustain it with no problems.
it doesn't sound like you will be taxing a stock alternators 110 amp output however if you are wanting to make upgrades the issue nowadays is that your typical parts store chain sell crappy rebuilt alternators. it is not uncommon to go through several in a short period of time due to failure of sub standard parts.
the solution is either buying a quality rebuilt stock Alternator from your Ford dealer or Buy a Quality Hi Amp output like a leech Neville ( the ones Ford puts on their Ambulances and Fire service vehicles )
Just keep in mind the alternator output at idle is considerably less than what it is rated at. The stock 110amp is like 35 amps at idle.(I am sure somebody will find the precise value shorty).
So, if you are camping with a 110v TV on your inverter, a stereo, and using your lights to see in the field/ on the beach you will need somebody to keep the engine revving well above idle.
