I am adding two 7.5" 130 watt driving lights, and two 6" 100 watt Hella FF lights to the truck. I have the stock ford fog lights, and Silverstars in the headlights.
Does the stock alternator have enough punch to handle these?
I am not really concerned, just want to be sure. For those in the know, what is the max draw of the stock alternator before I see signs of overloading the system??
You're adding between 35-40 amps of load to the system. The stock alternator is max 110 amp, I believe. But the engine itself draws a pretty significant load itself, plus the headlights, plus the fog lights.
I'm no expert, but if it were me I think I'd want a higher output alternator.
I don't think your stock unit will hold up.
I put in a 200amp unit in that puts out 110amps at idle. It is a VERY nice and well made.

Thanks, chamberlain. I am having a hard time believing these four lights will cause too much of an issue. I suppose if the bulbs at greater than 100 watts cause an issue I can always reduce their output and lower the draw??

Yup. Add up the wattage of each bulb and then divide by 12. That'll be the additional amperage load you'll be putting on the electrical system.
Being that you have an Excursion you have a higher output alternator stock I'm pretty sure. You have a higher output alternator though, because there is a lot more stuff on your truck that draws power.

Really?? I will have to find out exactly how big my alternator is .... I will get back to you.
