Lots of things going on back there and voltage drops a big one, the wires that went through the axle on my Dexter axles was maybe 16ga at the most, I replaced it with 12ga strapped to the axle when the original one shorted out. Electric drum brakes have a lot of variables that we would never put up with on a vehicle, every wheel has its own magnet that engages its own drum surface. They also may not have the same air gap between the drum and magnet , it takes more voltage to overcome a larger air gap. Electric drums will not come on the same rate all the time like hydraulic will, when I removed my drums when I changed to disk the left front shoes were 90% gone and the rest had various amounts of wear with none the same, the left front is the first brake that gets power from the controller on our trailer.

I have electric drums on my 2010 Montana, & I noticed in the mirror while getting into a site on the wet grass last trip that the left front would lock up as soon as I touched the brake. I guess a complete rewire job with 12 gauge is on the "to do" list.

Our Hitchhiker had #10 all the way from the hitch to the axles.
