Just got back from Ford dealership after was told I have bad injectors not glow plugs; was gonna have a scanner to check them.
He said on the 2003 7.3 can't be checked on scanner.
Anyone know how to determine if I may have bad or dirty injector/injectors?
This gettin scary
You can have injector buzz tests and cylinder contribution tests done. You can pull the valve covers and watch the oil spouts while the truck is running.
Tell us what your symptoms are, what year your truck is, mods, etc. Where are you located? We may have someone near by that can help.

Hard to start unless plugged in(cranks over just doesn't want to start). Runs fine after starting. Starts fine after even sitting a couple hours.

Have you ohmed out the glow plugs? Checked the relay for function? It certainly could be the injectors, mine started doing exactly what you describe at 150,000 miles and it was the injectors. There are many on this forum who have gotten double that mileage and then some out of the original injectors. I would start with the GP system diagnostics first, then go from there. If you click on the cold start thread link in my signature, there is a TON of trouble shooting info related to both GP's and injectors.
I'm thinking that he was referring to removing the head(s). I expect that to be quite an undertaking even for a mechanic. I understand the feeling of concern.
i just intalled new glow plugs yesterday. It would put out some white smoke in the morning so i figured it neede some, ( i wish i would of remembered to check the injector bolts,, oh well ) but the truck has 323xxx and the glow plugs i pulled out didnt seem that bad but they did smell bad obviously from burning and they did have germany printed on the oe i pulled out Also the drivers banks side injectors were labeled with numbers on top of the injector selenoid perhaps they have been changed before?
i believe in maintance before something brakes on you im not a mechanic but i am 21 and i know almost everything on these damn engines.
I am going to guess that you are asking if your truck has original injectors or replacements?
Here is a picture of mine, which I believe are originals.
Did he tell you which five it was? More importantly did he tell you what he replaced them with? And do you know how to ohm check your glow plugs through the harness?
And what exactly is he referring to as a fuel harness? An under the valve cover harness (UVCH)?

How far north of Gainesville? There are a couple of good diesel shops I know of near me, I am about an hour from Gainesville. May not be too far from you if you don't feel comfortable tackling this yourself?
I do have AE also, and would offer to hook it up to your truck, but I am SLAMMED right now. But if you have any issues in the future please feel free to ask. If I can get time I am more than happy to help out

There is a connection at your UVCH in the center of your valve covers (one on each head). disconnect it and you will see the ends shown in this picture. The two outer pins on each side (the larger ones) feed your glow plugs. Ground your ohm meter to the head and check each of those outer spades for ohms. I can't tell you what setting to have the ohm meter on, I just flip it around until it comes into the proper range for me. Each glow plug should read at less than 2 ohms. Mine are about 1.5 and all read the same.
