Ok, time to ask the experts. Have an ongoing problem with the car alarm. Every couple of weeks or so the alarm will go of for no apparent reason. Sometimes in the middle of the night. Neighbors getting a little testy. Been happening since I bought it last year and did the same for the previous owner.
Alarm will go off with no one close by. Beeps for about one minute then quit. There is a red led light and a small button I think is a reset button. I have to leave the car unlocked to make sure the alarm will not be set-off again. When I check for a problem, the red light is on and I push the button, there is a click and the red light goes off. I have been manually locking the doors instead of using the fob and that seems to keep the alarm from going off for a while. I downloaded the instructions for setting the sensitivity and have is turned down as far as possible.
This is on a 2001 excursion with 7.3 engine. I even disconncted both batteries for a few minutes and reset the sensitivity again and alarm went off at 4 am.
Any ideas please? Thanks.
My truck came with a Ford Security System that did the same thing. Would go off randomly in the middle of the night. I never figured out why, so I pulled the module under the dash and the problem never returned. It drove me and the neighbors nuts too.
Thought of doing the same thing, but I heard that the alarm mod is tied into the engine start. By pulling the mod did it have any effect on using the fob?
Any alarm can be easily uninstalled. Especially on these trucks. There's really not much to any alarm system that is put on the Super Duty.
Well.... I say that, but it depends on how good the quality of installation was at the time it was put in. If it's done right, taking it out with all the associated wiring, and returning the factory wiring back to original is a breeze. If someone did a crappy job of putting it in, then sometimes it's a nightmare working through a rats nest to get those out.
I've taken some alarms out in less than 5 minutes, and others have taken nearly an hour. Never had one take me more than an hour. The ones that took longer was me going back and putting the factory wiring to near original condition. That's what eats up the majority of time.
If you are unfamiliar with alarm wiring, take it to several shops and get estimates.
