Warn 8274 Winch Mount Ideas?

Folks, I just acquired a 8274 off Craigslist for $80. Woo hoo! I've been looking for one for a while. Guy listed it as a "Wagner" and the model plate was worn out. It's going to need cleaning up - was mounted to an equipment trailer, so it's a little messy. I do this for fun, so Im not scared to rebuild it!

So, I have a 1977 Ford F150 that I want to mount it to. However, I like the clean look of my factory bumper, etc. I'm kinda looking for ideas for keeping it clean. I have welders, plasma cutter, etc. and it would be most fun to fabricate something.

I also have to figure out a clean way to wire it up, but I'm not as worried about that. We have a great place in Nashville that makes cheap wiring harnesses like this. I'll probably install in-cab and a 4-way remote so I can control it from either. I also don't like to disturb my factory look on the dash.

Thanks for your ideas.

1st make a super strong receiver winch mount plate, then come up with a between the frame rail mounted front receiver hitch. Make the receiver tube come out in line and behind the license plate. And then get a flip down licence cover. That way all you have to do it cut a 2" hole in your bumper (behind) the license plate.

Wire it with quick disconnects, that way you can winch from either end of the truck, and as long as you have a receiver drop hitch on the tail end of your rig? I can also put that winch on my trailer, and I have power q/d jumper like cable on the other end so even a buddy can use it on his truck.

I am building rock sliders on the bronco that will have a receiver tube in the middle, so I can side winch. And I have now cut off the vertical mount receiver tube piece hanging down.

Yeah you could make it removable like he^ said but those things are a beast. You would be better off with a smaller, lighter winch if you want to be taking it on and off.

Thanks for the replies yall. I may try and find a junkyard bumper to cut the square hole in, so if I want to sell I still have the original. My truck is pretty close to original. That removable bumper does look pretty cool on that green and white 78+. I have a shop crane I could use to take it on and off pretty easily.

I used to have a compact tractor that had a front mount using pins a slot that acted as a hinge, and spring pins locked it from rotating. It was used to mount a snow plow. That got me to thinking maybe a snow plow-like attachment setup would keep me from having to mod my bumper? I live in the south so I don't have any plows to look at. I'll keep chewing on it.

Thanks again.
