Hello All,
I'm just curious if anyone has ever looked into or has actually made a hidden winch mount for their F350? Warn offers one but it requires that the bumper be moved forward 5" and it comes with a plastic filler piece to hide the gap but I'm not real wild about the way it looks. The mount is only for their 12,000lb and larger winches. I assume that there just isn't enough room behind the bumper for a winch w/o moving the bumper out.
I made a hidden winch mount for my previously owned 2001 Dodge Ram Sport as seen in the pic below. I used a Ramsey 8,000lb winch which has smaller dimensions than the larger capacity Warn plus the 8000lb capacity may be stretching the limits to pull out my '03 F30 CC dually 4X4. I don't really do any serious offroad riding anymore and with a snatchblock, the 8000lb may do well enough for me. It's just that I use my truck at work sometimes and have to pull off the side of the road and sometimes it can get a little messy.
Just looking for ideas, suggestions, thoughts.
Thanks!
PS. I apologize in advance for posting a "D*dge" truck pic on here.
There's not a lot of winch options for a Super Duty. No, there's not a lot of room between the bumper and the intercooler/radiator/AC condensor/oil cooler, on the PSD. I'm going to weld up a frame mount that utilizes the tow hook mounts. Similar to the Stull unit for my Ramsey RE10000. Hidden is nice, but there's got to be enough movement of the bumper for the sensors to signal for airbags deployment. Even if I hit something square on, something's gonna move one side of the bumper or the other to get things to work properly. If I don't hit something hard enough to fold around my new winch mount, then I prolly didn't need the air bags anyway.
I plan on incorporating a metal hinged cover for the winch that will also work as a step for when I have to get under the hood.
If you don't do alot of off roading anymore you can use a front hitch and a winch mount for the receiver. You would have to carry the winch and actually mount it in rather than just pulling the cable. Most will handle up to 9000 lbs straight pull so you could still use the 8000 you already have.
I just installed a front hitch on my 250 and the install was an absolute no brainer. $126.00, 4 holes drilled and about 45 mins total time. (I don't have front fog lights)
What about if you do have the fog lights though, which I do have. Is there a way to remote them some how? Or am I going to have to go to my machine shop and have something fabed up?
