I have a two post asymmetric rotary lift, 7000 pound. Purchased out of a closing commercial business it works great and I am sure it will last many years. I find them on craigslist quite often.
I know what you mean about the older lifts being heavy, I had a few that were built when steel was cheap, including a mohawk 2 post that the posts were barely movable. The rotary posts are heavy but can be moved around with some help and no forklift needed as long as one section is moved at a time.
I would get one with asymmetric arms which allow a lot more room for opening doors while on the lift or parked in that bay. I would stick with a USA lift but a friend did recently buy a new 2 post from Greg Smith, I haven't gotten to see it yet to compare to mine.

Bob.

I put a used 2 post Rotary9000# in a couple years ago
I like it and first job pretty much paid for it

I haven't attempted to lift and F4/5/6 on it but my buddy had a shop with several of the same lifts and he has lifted modern dumptruck with no issues

Imo. Like most Chinese stuff they rate for a load but don't add much "service factor" like quality US stuff

My current lift is asymmetric , that's what I'd go with again. When I went to buy it the guy wanted $2200 for it, it also came with a Blackhawk transmission stand and other stuff. My asked if I'd ever get my money's worth out of it. Within a month of installing it I rebuilt the front ends of my youngest son's car, the front end of my oldest son's truck and brakes on my daily driver. I saved enough money in those three repair jobs to pay for the lift twice over. Not only that but every time I use it my back and knees thank me.

Just found a Manitowoc just like the one I have on CL. It's about 200 miles away but at a decent price if it's in good condition. No pictures or detailed description in the ad. Emailed for more info, I'll wait to see what it's like.

i got a 2 post rotary 12,000lbs works really good. got the motor and pomp assembly replaced on warrenty, they didn,t even pick up the old assembly. lately in cold weather and heavy vehicle it got a problem. if i stop lifting i can,t start up again, i got to lower lift and start over.usely happens in the morning on my first jobs. its 4 years old ,when i was checking models out challenger would of been my second choice.

I have a Bendpac 10,000 and it has been in 8 years and and only issues I have had are some of the hyd. hosed have outer shell cracked. I replaced them. I have picked up 1 ton extend cab pickups with no issue. It is 2 post. It is installed outside exposed to the weather so that likely explains the hose cracking. I have a cover surrounding the motor housing so it is water proof.

I appreciate the input. When I was looking for a two post lift I read a lot on the HAMB's Garage Journal. There's a lot of information there but as with the HAMB board there are "personalities" on it. I trust the members here to more reliable and being a smaller group, more personable and easier to talk to like a bunch of guys sitting around in somebody's garage.

Dave, that's what I like about the Manitowoc. First thing I checked on since the lifts haven't been built since, I think, some time in the early, mid '90s, is parts availability. There's a place in Chicago that bought the rights to Manitowoc parts and carries everything I'd need. I like the idea that a product like the Manitowoc units have been around a long time and seem to last decades. I tend to buy the best quality tools I can afford. If I do buy a cheap wrench the worst that will probably happen is I get a skinned knuckle, with a lift I want to know it's going to stay up in the air if I'm under it and especially if my son is under it.

So far from everything I've read Bendpac and Challenger are the top ones. Mohawk is more professional but also more costly.

If you offered to lower the price 2K and kept the lift, would the buyer go for it? Or is the lift worth more than that to him? (or the opposite to you?) I would consider that to be the threshold of determination to make a decision.

He wants the lift. I want the lift. I also need to sell the building. I'm not letting him know that though. He let it be known that he thinks I'm not in too much of a hurry to sell the building and I'll let him keep thinking that. If selling the building is held up by not including the lift the lift will have to go with it. As I mentioned above I have found the exact lift relatively nearby. I'm waiting for a reply from the seller to send me more information and pictures of the unit he has.

Bob, best of both worlds sell it with the lift, buy the one on CL then have a Truckfest get together and have us all put your lift together. Everyone wins!

Dave if I can work out selling my building and getting the other lift I will have it installed way before Truckfest '17. But you did give me an idea for Truckfest '17 since we won't have any cows to milk, maybe lift rides for 25c

Hey Bob,
It's tough to show the place & then say you are keeping the.... They will always want whatever
it is you are trying to take with you. Let him have the lift if..... we close by the end of the month.
I'm jealous of your new garage - what a nice place to work on a truck.

A commercial property is a little different than a residential property. There are always fixtures and tooling being used in an ongoing operation. I still have other tools and other things that are still being used. I have a small business so it's also different than a larger company, I can be a little more flexible with my arrangements. Right now I'm in the process of moving my stuff out. I am also working a full time job with OT that limits my moving time to the weekends. Excuses I know, but that's just how it's working out.
