I know this won't apply to many but I am looking for opinions on two post lifts for a 3/4 - 1 ton truck that some may have experience with. Am building a new workshop and want to install a lift as I am getting too old to crawl under any more.
I have an early bend-pak lift, it is like a '91 year model, it is rated as a 7000lb lift and my truck is just shy of 8000lbs and never a problem. But I never leave there, I put it up do what I need and let it back down. If I was going to buy one I would get the 9000lb lift, just about any brand and consider it good. It is like everything else, if you are going to use it everyday and make a living with it, go top shelf, for occasional home use just get what is needed for the jobs you do. No sense in going broke for something that only sees limited use. just my .02.
I have a budy with a 9000 pound lift and he didn't trust my truck at just over 8000 pounds. Neadless to say he just bought a new lift from snap on that is rated for 10,000 or 11,000 pounds, the arms and other componints are much beafier.
Im sure he paid for it but usually you get what you pay for, and when you make your living with it you don't just bye elcheapo. And the good thing is o don't have to pay to use his shop.
I've had my truck on both and to tell you the truth, when the day comes I'm buying an asymmetrical. Easier to get in and out of the truck when pulling in and out and just seems it's never in the way.
I was surprised at the relative cost of a lift myself.... I have an Eagle brochure for "reading material" in the head LOL....several for about 2-3 k .... also look into some shops closing or upgrading their equipment...they can be had cheap but finding them is the trick....
Hoping to build a house in the next year or so and I already have a taller garage in plans for a lift placement in the add on garage
When you build your shop you need the specs for the lift so you can get the floor set up for the lift. I have a 7,000 lb bendpak asymmetric about 1990 -1995. When we did the floor it had different rebar and thicker concrete under the lift. I can't use it with my dually, its too heavy. I have lifted one end at a time.

Good point. I put in a 6" slab throughout so I hope it will be sufficient.
I opted for an in-ground Rotary SL-210RA lift when we built our garage a few years ago. It lifts our 8000lb Excursion just fine, and I don't have any posts in the way. The only downside is that it would be difficult to lift the body off the newer trucks, if I had one of those.
