Does Dielectric Grease make difference charging

Two months or so ago I cleaned all my connections charged all the batteries and bam the truck would twist right up. Now I was having a problem 2 months later where the starter would not spin fast enough to light it.

So I did the process again but this time I used grease and the truck lights right up again, I checked the charging system and it checks OK. So should the grease make a good difference ?

Thanks for your results using the grease vs bare.

The grease does help, but I try to stay away from it.
Once it dries and gets all crusty it gives you worse problems and then you have to fight to clean it.

Imo I would think unless your connections are really that bad then it's just temporarily hiding a weak starter.
Iv had several get just weak enough where my truck wouldn't start but it still worked fine. New starter and it cranks like a powerstroke

Thanks, it's a difference like night and day. It's like it gets corrosion quick and I wonder if this is hurting the charging ? Also somebody used some real heavy duty Romex wire from battery 1 to 2 on the positive and the positive negative terminals are the bolt wire clamp style..

You should try those 99¢ anti corrosion rings. They work wonders

One thing I've noticed over the years, battery corrosion at the terminals is a symptom, often (not always) caused by excessive outgassing.

When I make a point of keeping a battery thoroughly charged though, there are no longer any chemistry experiments growing on the terminals. They stay pristine.

In a parallel connected battery, if one becomes mismatched it will hog charge current and outgas. This eventually ruins cables and further increases resistance, etc.

Dielectric grease is best for sealing up weather pak connectors and o-rings, spark plug boots and such. For heavy duty grounds and battery connectors subject to sulfuric acid fumes something heavier and more resistant, is maybe better than silicone. Grease, vaseline, etc. I like NO-OX, used by railroads and the phone co. to keep corrosion at bay. It's cheap and lasts a long time and is conductive.

first thing i would do is get rid of the rigged wires and put proper heavy battery cable or better yet welding cable with proper solder on ends on the batteries.
then seal the jacket to terminals real good with dielectric grease and heat shrink tubing. clean battery terminals, and inside of cable ends. put it all together, and finish it up with spray on battery terminal sealer. i use rattle can clear coat to seal the terminals, it is about half the price of terminal sealer.
