I am having a problem with my 1995 f-150. recently when I would try to start it it would pause and make a loud click then it would turn over. but this morning it just clicked. The Battery appears to be ok because the lights, radio, and everything else works. The battery has a yellow discoloration on top of it and has some corrosion. Do you think this staring problem could be the starter or something else? Thanks for any help you can give me.

First try cleaning the battery terminals, go to the auto parts and buy a terminal brush, remove the clamps from the top of the battery (negative first), and use the brush to clean it to bright and shiney. Get a regular wire brush and clean the outside of the clamps. Reinstall (install positive first). Use regular grease and put a light coating on the terminals. The yellow stuff is battery acid so don't get it on your clothes. Everything will appear fine untill you was them and then the become religous (holy). Every ford I've owned has had a problem with burning and corrosion on the inside of the battery clamps so evry couple of months I just clean them and evrything is fine. If you want most parts stores can test your battery normally for free.
I was having problems just like you disribe on my 95 I cleaned the terminals and it dident cure the problem it was really frustraiting .I checked all grounds and finaly took the starter out and used a wire brush along the trans were it bolted up to and cleaned it up to make a better ground and that cleared up the problem also ran a ground from the starter to the frame.
