About the only thing it doesn't have that I wanted is running boards.... I know the FX4, at least the 2012 generally comes with the side step style boards, but I really like the tube style nerf bar better.
So looking on ebay I found some OEM boards just down the street for $75, in very good condition, but off a 2005 F150.
I looked under my truck very quickly and decided they looked like they would bolt right up, but as most of you might already know.. The holes are not going to line up.
It looks like I'm going to have to drill to make them work. I'm thinking I should be able to line the top holes up on some cage nut clips and then drill the bottoms. If the truck was old, I wouldn't hestitate. But I just got it two weeks ago, and am a little anxious about drilling into the bottom. Worried about it rusting too.
Opinions? Was considering drilling the holes and then painting the holes and letting it cure before mounting....
Are my concerns founded? should I just sell the running boards and keep looking? Or just install the dang things.
IIRC I thought the frames remained the same from 2004-2014. What may be different is the cab style that those boards came from.
Another part of the reason I thought they would bolt right up... Some of the after market boards I had been looking at all quoted that same range. 2004-2014..
He had a crew cab, same as mine.. The length "looks" right.
again I think the standard running board for this year FX4 is the side step style, I an thinking this may be the reason the holes dont line up..
I'll look at it again this weekend and make the call then.. Thanks for the responses.

The reason they don't fit is in 2009 Ford lengthened the super crew cab 6". Best bet would be to move the mounting placement on the running board and bolt it on in the correct position to match the cab. All it would take is some nut certs if you have the tube style steps.
Good advice.... Much better make hole in tube steps than truck.
It looks like there is some adjustment there, another set of holes to mount the tube on the brackets.... But if it still doesn't match truck then I agree... I'll make the tubes match the truck instead of the other way around.

I always thought that running boards would bolt to the frame, but I found out when I had my '08 that they didn't. There are holes on the underside of the body that accept the mounting hardware, and of course the cabs are completely different.
I wouldn't be drilling into my cab unless I had a really good reason. Much better to sell the ones you got and find ones designed for your truck. You can buy the genuine Ford accessory running boards for around $400. A bit pricey, but worth it for a new truck IMHO.
The Running boards had extra holes to mount to the brackets, I repositioned one of the brackets on each side and eliminated the middle bracket. (the middle bracket just would not line up)
By doing this I could mount the boards, no drilling needed.
Maybe a tad short, but for $85 (had to buy the clips)... I wear them for awhile.
