New to me 2011 Wolf Creek 850 on my 78 F350 Camper Special
After months of searching, I located a really clean 2011 Wolf Creek 850 to mount on my 78 F350 Camper Special.
This is my first slide in truck camper and am very excited about using it on many new adventures here in BC as well as Washington State and Oregon. Just finished with the camper wiring and now need to fabricate and install frame mounted tie down brackets. Unfortunately the factory tie down brackets are MIA.
The camper dry weight is around 2100 lbs so the F350 only settled about two inches with camper installed and has about another inch to go before the overload springs make contact. Truck has a Dana 70 rear axle with 3:73 gears and C-6 auto with 460 engine. Power will not be an issue but I'm sure gas mileage won't be great. That being said, the 460 engine is thirsty empty or loaded so it may not make much difference.
I'm trying to learn as much as possible about truck camping and there is lots of great information here. My previous camper was a Winnebago Minnie Drop trailer so I am looking forward to the simplicity and ease of parking etc. that a truck camper will provide vs a trailer.

2011 Northern Lite 9'6" for sale
2016 Northern Lite 10'2" bought (picking up first week of April)
I've been running this camper on my 2012 F-150 for four years (8200 GVW long box) without any problems, but wanted to up the size of the camper so I had to up the size of the truck.

Reason: More information
The tag has a one ton spring and axle set.
I built it in 2002 for a 1500 GMC that had a 7200#GVWR
It has been on three PUs Has about 23000 miles on it.
I'll do a big write on it later
It looks like it would slap the bottom of the slide in every little bump it encountered.
I can see it is rigidly mounted to the frame of the truck, with the wheels providing some support.
It looks sturdier than those baskets I see hanging off the back of SUV's using just the 2" receiver for support...
Tag axle looks great, I can see how it would reduce rear axle load, but it won't help for vehicle gross weight, which quite often is a limiting factor.

Being able to view the pic and how it is mounted, gives a whole new perspective on how it trails. Pretty neat setup!
