Ok, heres the deal. Lets build the Ultimate 4x4. Heres the rules
1. Only one mod from each user at a time.
2. Once a mod has been proposed, no changing it.
3. List estimated price with each mod. Try to be as close as possible
4. Be creative.
5. Explain your choice of mod
To start out, we're going to start the build on a 96 F-250 short bed, supercab, 2wd, with a psd.
Mod 1
Purchace truck - $8,000

Front Dynatrac 60 ($2000-$3000)guess no price listed
High Clearance Housing
ARB air locker
High pinion reverse cut gears
35 spline outer shafts
When you break the knuckles CTM's
Rear Dynatrac 70($2000-$3000)guess no price listed
HD dual-piston vented disc brakes
ARB air locker
(Anything more you guys want to put on?)
Pick what gears you guys are going to put on it when you decide on tires.
Before you go very far choosing components and mods, you need to define a little more specifically what the intended application (usage) is.
For example, if the intended usage is deep woods trail crawling, I'd suggest chopping the frame on the F250 to shorten it for a tighter turning radius, and maybe building custom coil-over multi-link front and rear suspensions for decent articulation. On the other hand, if the intended usage is mud racing, I'd suggest lifting the truck as high as possible with the stiffest leaf springs available, Rockwell axles, and mounting tractor paddle floatation tires that make SS Boggers look like they belong on a baby stroller. See where I'm going?
So where are "we" going?
On those Dynatracs, I'd guess $2-3K might buy you an empty D60 housing.
Those are totally custom axles, essentially built from scratch. If you want a functioning, ready-to-run axle with just the basics (say a locker and a ring/pinion set), you're looking at $5K+ for a front D60, maybe $4K+ for a rear.
So why a D70 rear, or are we talking about a dually towing 20K lbs on a fifth wheel? If you go with Dynatrac, their D60s are considerably stronger than a stock D70 anyway, and you'd have better ground clearance with the smaller D60 pumpkin.

With the 18" lift I'm guessing we're gonna have to put some 49" IROK's on this beast. A Dana 60 (Dynatrac or otherwise) is not gonna hold up with that little ring and pinion as well as a 70. If they made a 70 front I would suggest one of those. And a 70-U doesn't have terrible clearance. Especially with 49" tires
Well, looks like we've taken care of tires, suspension, and dual dynatracs and an atlas (good choice)! You'll need some beef to spin 49" tires. Time to drop in a Ford crate 514, inject it, and even supercharge it for good measure. Total cost @10,000k. Yea, that should be nasty enough. Why? Its a Ford, 460s rule for big horse, and blowers are just plain kewl. Anybody can run juice.
By the way, skip the dynatracs. We are talking about tires that are 49" tall and almost 20" wide, being pushed by @ 800 horses. Rockwells would be far better AND cheaper. I don't know if the dynatracks are "approved" or not so I can go into this more if needed.

Bah..you have a Powerstoke origionally, I would keep it in there, give it a puff of propane and nitrous, chip it, and then add an H2E turbo housing and a set of 513 injectors. Also add a 4" exhaust downpipe back. All this would add up to about $5800 and would be pushing more torque than the 514.
Edit, is the truck a manual or an auto?
If auto, take the truck to Brian's Truck Stop and allow him to build a bulletproof E4OD. $3200
Ok,,,,since i'm making the rules...pro you've been voted down on the 514. Its sticking with the diesel. And for the record, no ones prompted for a tranny yet. So, its getting an E4od From Brians truck stop. 3200 bucks
Okay when I thought Dynatrac I was thinking about 44's but that wouldn't make it the the ultimate 4x4 would it everyones running 44's. Some people even have 2 1/2 ton rockwells. How about monster truck axles they can handle huge amounts of horsepower, stress, and tire. So do we go big or bigger?
is this just going to be an overkill huge show truck or is this going to be used for something? like are we wanting the ultimate off road ability or cool show?
