Dash cracked to diddly fix?

I've been looking, but have seen it before here somewhere where someone filled in the cracks with a filler/ bondo type something or other... Then recovered in vinyl or something... Anyone have pics or a link to this ?

Thank you in advance

Hey Jeff, what about putting a dash pad on it? There not hard to find through places that sell aftermarket panels, and you can dye or paint them to the color you need
But hopefully you can snag one at one of the local yards around there.

I put a cover on mine that I got from Dennis Carpenter. I painted it to match. Since it's not flexible like the dash pad, you can paint it with regular plastic paint (that I got from Lowe's) and flex-agent is not needed.

UNK Bob, I've tried to find a regular dash pad to to luck at this time at our jy here... I'm thinking if i can fix the cracks and throw on some leather look brown vinyl it would look better than a plastic cap... Heck, my Big Red's dash pad is almost mint, Bandit has a carpet cover on the whole dash which looks great, was thinking of doing the same to the 79 explorer, but that dash pad is destroyed lol, plus I'm changing colors on the truck..

I haven't found too many of these trucks over here either, everything is getting harder to find, and costing more.
But it sounds like you have a pretty good back up plan anyways.
Time to go play with some guitars

Get a dash pad cover from LMC and rock on.

Truck Parts and Truck Accessories

I have a few dash pads at the shop in various levels of brokeness that you can experiment on with different reapir products, then use the final idea on your truck.

Another alternative may be to see if someone in your area does dash repair - had a tree fall down and a branch went right through the windshield and into the top of the dash about 4". Local body shop called a local fella who does nothing but repairs like that - cost about $100 which was hugely less than Hyundai wanted for the whole dash pad (much less installation labor.) You really only have a few alternatives - repalce the pad for about $250 and labor (if I recall the catalog's price) put a cap on it, put something like a carpeted pad over it, or try to fill/repair the pad yourself. Come time to do mine I'm going to try the local guy first.

When I was shopping I saw a late '80s truck where a fella in Mexico had made a new dash pad and covered it with bright red vinyl... let's just say the results were eyewatering.

Can't go wrong with the LMC kit. I had to cut off the curled up vinyl where it was cracked and then I filled with Bondo and sanded before slapping the cover on. It came out nice though.

Here's the result:
