Yes, I know the last post is over a year old.

There have been some options alluded to in this thread as well as some products that have either not been discussed or have hit the market since then regarding the Hydra switcher aka controller aka head.

As the internet is forever and many threads have a useful life after the real-time discussion is over I wanted to provide an update since the Hydra has been on the market for awhile now.

The current options that I have seen are:

1. Standard installation with velcro on the dash.

2. Bezel mount: Hydra Switcher Gauge Mount Bracket (HYDRA-BRCKT)

3. Keeping with the gauge motif you can get switcher in the shape of a gauge: https://www.cncfab.us/shop/php-gauge...ydra-selector/

4. Flush mount: Hydra In-Dash Billet Flush Mount (HYDRA-MNT)

Some observations and comments on them based on my Hydra experience:

1. Standard installation (keep the original backyard run-the-ribbon-out-of-the-dash-and-velcro-the-switcher-somewhere). While this is rudimentary and does not appease my OCD this is the option I currently employ. Since I live in CA and get smogged every 2 years I can set the tune, remove the switcher, and tuck the ribbon back into the dash for the test. The inconspicuous piece of velcro on the dash does not draw any suspicion. The practical application (for me) outweighs the "cheap" mounting but it does bother me to look at so we'll see how long this mounting lasts. On the plus side I can mount this out of view so I don't have to look at the LED number while I drive.

2. Bezel mount. This was the first available option for purchase and is a great way to add a mount with virtually no modification. The ribbon is still visible but the only requirement is that you have a gage installed somewhere near the driver due to the limited length of the ribbon.

3. Gauge-sized switcher. Very cool if you have an empty pod. If not there are options to get mounts that have another pod or mounts that only have one pod. The ribbon is also hidden for a cleaner look IMO. Limited mounting options due to ribbon length. More options than the bezel mount though because of pod options (pillar, instrument cluster, steering column).

4. Flush mount. All the other options require little effort/modification as long as the mounting "surface" is there (flat surface with space behind it). While this one requires some work to install it is a very nice option. You can't see the ribbon but you have to mount it on a flat spot.

While my mounting is far from special it meets my needs: I can quickly hide it for an inspection, I can easily reach it to switch tunes, it is not in my normal driving view (doesn't bother me day or night), but I can easily glance and see it if I want to.

When i purchase hydra im going to get the extended cable as well.

Ideally I would like to run the cable into the glove box and install a custom backplate to put the remote into.

Hydra mount: Hydra In-Dash Billet Flush Mount (HYDRA-MNT)

The Hydra doesn't fit into the DP mount without modifying the plastic of the Hydra switch box to fit the mount.

So we can link to RR but not GP for the same mount? Makes no sense?!

It makes complete sense. As was previously covered before, it's because Joe isn't a supporting vendor, but since Riffraff Diesel is, then yes, we can link to it.

Just click the Riffraff link in my post above yours and you'll see the mount.

It makes perfect sense, you just don't want to accept it.

I'll say this one last time. Joe, a regular user here, isn't a Supporting Vendor so it's not allowed. Riffraff, who is also a regular user here, is a Supporting Vendor so it is allowed.

It's time to move past this. I don't make the rules, I just make sure they are followed.
