New to the diesel world here and just picked up my first 1997 F350 a couple months ago. When I bought the truck the guy warned me that he heard a knock come from the bell housing a while ago but he never looked into it. The truck then sat for three years before I bought it. When I first drove it the transmission wasn't slipping at all but after driving it for awhile it was having a hard time shifting. The truck would start shaking and would get a loud vibration from about 2500 to 3000 RPMs then finally shift hard. Also when I would start it up in the morning and let it warm up, when I put it in reverse the truck would bog down and then die. Today I was driving it and at about 45 MPH I lost the transmission. It would just rev up but not move, Both in drive and in reverse. Not sure if it is stuck in between gears but when I tried to turn it over after I shut it off it sound like a grinding noise. Have read possible torque converter problems but would love some opinions before I start throwing money at it when I may have to just buy a new tranny. Anything would help as I am new to the diesel world!!
