E40d Tranny Problems

I have a 94 F150 4x4 with the E40D that has 125k miles on it.
and if you shift it into Drive or Reverse it stalls.
It starts fine and runs fine, just can't move it.
I tried to push it and can't even move it without removing the driveshafts.
and help would be really appreciated.

how about your MIL Is it on. have you done anything to the transmission lately like a filter change and can you keep it going if you flutter the accelerator pedal. I understand this a forward and reverse problem but have you checked your transmission fluid and do you have a manual shift transfer case. lets make sure this is a trans issue as a lot of times its not and did this happen when shifting from drive to reverse or just all of the sudden. tired pulling codes yet and does it jerk like you stalled a standard or like you shut the engine down.

The tranny had been rebuilt about 3000 miles ago. but is out of warranty.
I just parked it one evening and when I went out to drive it the next day the problem occured, no warning signs, no previous problems with slippage or anything.
I have never taken it off-road or any abusive driving.

And I have been told by a few that it may be the torque converter just looking for a second opinion before I pull the tranny.

well if your not going to diagnose it which is understandable as it was just overhauled then it is most likely an internal problem could be electrical but is not un common being its any gears. as far as the reverse problem on some of these transmissions the filters would be sitting in the trans pan loose and only cause a problem in reverse on certain transmissions. could be the converter but if its internal a lot of times you got to tear it down to find the problem and the cause of the problem or another trans .

Try this. Engine OFF key in ON position (to unlock the shifter), trans in any gear, try to roll it. If it moves it's the TC. If it doesn't, it may be a park pawl issue.

I have already replaced the shifter lever sensor.
and I have already tried the key in the On position and tried to push the truck, but can't get it to move anywhere
and I even pulled the pan to check if the filter had dropped, because I had read that it could cause the same problem.
and I have never even heard of the park pawl.
so I know nothing about that.

the parking pawl is basically what holds your truck in place anti roll. even if that was a problem the engine still should not stall. you need to be sure the converter is not being commanded to lock up and that its actually in the transmission like a stuck valve or flow issue. a lot of this depends on how they built the transmission their are correction parts to prevent some known problems like the filter or internal things like valves, pistons, seals and snap rings that sort of thing. what type of fluid are you running. did they replace the solenoid pack.

All the reciept said was rebuild transmission and rebuilt torque converter.
as far as that goes. I would have to take it to a tranny shop.

Try the key-on-and -roll thing again, but this time unhook the battery so there is no power to the trans. If it has no power it can't turn anything on, like all solenoids at once.
