I need some help, I started having some transmission problems the other day. It was slipping really bad and slamming into gear when it finally decided to shift. Other times it would just gradually shift. On the highway if you take off from a dead stop just driving normal it may do the above but it will also not shift into overdrive until I would let off the go pedal. I added a bottle of the lucas transmission fix and it seemed to help alittle bit but there is still an obvious problem. With that being said I took it in to a transmission shop( someone that I know and trust) and they said that they couldnt give me 100% diagnosis but they were leaning towards the torque converter. They told me to keep driving it until the problems were more noticable and occur more frequently because they didnt want to replace the torque converter and then that not be the problem and I just spent money on the labor and I will have to pay for it again. I know it would be easier to just have the tranny rebuilt but with christmas coming im alittle tight on funds. Any input would be much appreciated.
I don't have any real encouraging advise but I know where your coming from I just had mine rebuilt, It had the symptoms you describe, my TC was srewed and the 3rd gear set was worn out...My tranny had 355000 kms on it...My rebuilder put a Torque Monster TC with it and one of his own shift kit this thing is great now....
is it not wanting to shift into certain gears? mine didnt like leaving 3rd for 4th gear..also lost reverse from time to time and got it back here and there...3rd and reverse's clutch packs are linked, and, basically if you lose reverse your tranny is toasted.
my tranny started periodicaly slipping in reverse, then a couple weeks later it progressed to symptoms like you described and the ones i stated above. Sometimes i wouldnt have reverse, others i would. Sometimes it didnt want to shift to 4th (i would be baja'ing down the road to work goign 45 turning 2700 RPM ) and then all of the sudden it was fine. Then i decided to take it in while it still drives.
I ended up having a blown sprag and the valvebody was effed up
I wish you good luck, although if i were you i would rebuild the whole thing. I believe if you replace your TC now and have your tranny go out in 10k miles, then your tranny blowing out will junk that new TC. Someone else can chime in on that one.
