Well I'm looking into adding remote start on my new rig, from the research i have done it looks fairly straight forward with the parts from ford. Has any one else done this? how id it work out? thanks in advance
I asked the dealer I go to from time to time about programming it and got a blank look. There has been a lot of threads on it and seems easy to install.
We don't install it ourselves, we have a tech come in that does it. Ask your parts department, not service, they'll probably be better about it (at least that's how it is here). They work well. If you warm your truck up in the morning I think it's probably more valuable than most of the "must have" options that cost twice as much. I'd certainly use it more than a sunroof myself.
Cheaper option that is PNP from what I read is the Fortin unit. It also uses your stock keys and doesn't require dealer programming. It is also under $90 the last I looked on Amazon.
Consider a quality aftermarket unit as well. Many of them have longer range than the Ford ones, and if you have a reputable shop install it, they'll warranty their work.
I have two 2011 Ford vehicles, one with factory remote start and one with a $300.00 aftermarket. The factory unit's range is useless compared to the aftermarket. Would not recommend buying Ford remote start ever.
