To install a remote start on a Diesel is probably the hardest Type of vehicle to install on. Its best to have somebody install it that has done it a few times

It can get very complicated do to the Glow Plugs and the wait to start

you also have to have an auto tranny which most are

Mine came with an alarm system a Pythone alarm/remote start IIRC it was 600.00 and a free install. Its one of those that the remote on the Key chain will notify the owner of any issues or attempted theift. The keypads are alot better now they will go upto a Mile.

they do have cheaper remote starts now IDK how good they are

I just was talking to my local best buy store and out the door price is $215.00. This is just a remote start. Its called a viper. Seems like a decent price, they have a cheaper one too, they told me that "the remote goes out more often" with the cheaper one. Kind of a non specific statement. Anyways. Thats what i have found so far. I dont want a security system on the truck.

Viper is the same company as the Python so it should be a good one
Iv had this remote start for 6 years now and still works

I do need a new remote and there 150.00 for the setup that I have I can go cheaper but then the truck would not Talk to the remote. Thats the Feature that sold me on it. Car Alarms go off all the time and nobody cares but the owner so I like the fact the remote alearts me when something happens

I have the AstroStart, it is a module that plugs in and eliminates most of the splice and dice. You still have to grab signal wires, also had mine installed by the selling vendor.

I have the astro start 2 way. Easy to install. You can install it on a manual transmission. Had mine since 2006...trouble free

I got mine done at a local Ford dealer which means all plug and play with wiring harnesses and the best part is i still have only one remote. It's a six button Ford remote and everything has worked flawlessly since day one. If i remember correctly it has specific setting just for a diesel pertaining to the delay from the moment you tell it to start. I think it's something like 40 seconds. I also like how i can press a button and walk away from the truck with the key and leave it running. Then press the same button at any point later and shut the truck down. I use this a lot in the summer to cool the truck temps down before shutting it down.

I just installed my 3rd viper alarm with remote start last week. I love them. I won't own a truck without it. I have one now on the 06 (been on for 5 years with no problems) and the 07, and have plans to put it on the wifes Lincoln LS in the next few weeks.

The only problem i have ever had with the truck is that it does take a little longer than normal on the cranking to turn over the engine. And sometimes i have to turn the key back to accessory and then try it again. Since i have this issue often would this effect the starting on a remote start? I dont know what makes the truck so this. I have brand new batteries on it and i have already checked the ficm and it is putting out the right voltage.

There is nothing "plug and play" about the Ford factory packages, they all have to be hard wired as their is many options for many of their types of vehicles. But you can do yourself a favor and research the part #'s for the "Gold" package and order from your parts counter, then go the service dept. and find out who they use to install their alarms (most of the time they contract out), took my installer 2 hrs and cost me $125 but they came to me and did it at my ofc. I also had him tap the SEIC into the aux. 1 and my train horns on aux 1.

Best part of this is it is covered under warranty if you have the dealer (or their contractor) install it.
