CODE P0301
This happened xmas shopping with the wife.Started missfiring on the highway, took the 1st exit to find a garage as I am 20kms from home. The vibrations were worse at stop ,but made it to a garage. They gave me the p0301 missfire cylinder 1,said they dont touch 5.4 plugs, charged me $36 and told me to go to ford 2kms down the road.NICE.4 in the pm,FORD dealer worse case scenario.Nope gave me a loaner told me come back at 930am.Truck was just waiting for an injector when I arrived.Plug&coil were good injector was shot, changed the fuel filter&oilchange.Gone by 11am.Professional mechanics dont turn away customers.

I asked them to change the plug & coil when I arrived not knowing exactly the problem. They changed the plug & still a missfireSwitched the coil & same result. They then went on to check the injector and found it was dumping fuel into the cylinder, they showed me this when I arrived, causing a "wash out".So far she runs great and before the missfire I had no codes.I have 2yr old autolite plugs in her when I bought her in April.Plug was changed the old one wasn t that bad.All parts changed were shown to me.Total for parts 140.76 canadian.

I really am glad you got an early Christmas present. Your lucky day apparently begin when you ran into the unprofessional mechanic that turned you away. He probably had been thoroughly baptized by misdiagnosis and unpleasant plug replacement experiences chasing elusive misfire codes on a 5.4L. I was just sayin' ...

I don't know tc829... I'm sure it was frustrating to be turned away (especially at 4pm far away from home), but I would suggest that a professional mechanic knows his limitations. Would you have preferred that he go at it and break off a plug and not be prepared with the extraction tool OR a loaner car like a dealership has access to?
Considering that he was able to refer you to a better-prepared alternative that solved your (uncommon) problem quickly and cost effectively, I think it was a pretty upstanding gesture.
He could have easily paid for his family's Christmas from your wallet!
I have a feeling that if you were really stuck and the Ford garage down the road was closed at the time, he might have tried to figure something out.
Anyway, glad the Ford garage was able to do such a great job -- sounds like they took pretty good care of you. Nice to hear a story once in awhile about a dealership providing great service at a reasonable price.
