2007 5.4 F150. Is the radiator drain the square yellow nylon (?) fitting at the bottom right of the radiator? Does it screw out and the coolant come out the little spigot ?
Would like to make sure before I get in there and destroy things
And if you unscrew the whole assembly it will drain faster and maybe flush out some dirt. I would probably pull the upper hose, open the expansion tank then pull the lower hose for maximum velocity. For refill, reconnect the lower hose and pour the diluted coolant into the expansion tank. The radiator will vent air at the disconnected upper hose as the system fills. When it starts to leak coolant there, reconnect the upper hose. Continue to add coolant to the expansion tank until it stabilizes.
After each hot-cold cycle, add make-up coolant to the expansion tank as air works out of the system.
Couldn't you easier drain the surge tank and refill it with coolant?
Whatever, to do what you want you could certainly just use the radiator drain. Put a pan under it and contain all you drain so you can tell when you have drained enough. Take the cap off the surge tank for faster draining.
