Ford Sync gets update to include Siri

The Ford software update is the first major update to the SYNC system that is on the fly (Credit: Ford)

Ford has conducted its first major on-the-fly update of its Sync software. The update, which is being offered to more than five million vehicles equipped with the company's infotainment services, can be applied to any Ford vehicle from model year 2011 forward that has the second-generation of Sync.

The update notably includes Siri integration, with access to Siri's hands-free help gained by a long press of the voice recognition button on the steering wheel.

The software update is available for the second-generation of Ford's SYNC, commonly called MyFord Touch in North America. SYNC was engineered from the beginning, Ford says, to be capable of receiving updates without going to a dealership. The third-generation of SYNC, already includes Siri Eyes-Free and has begun appearing in vehicles for the current model year.

So I downloaded it and installed it on my truck.
How do I learn what it changed?

Just checked the myford site and it came up for getting the upgrade. But and I say but read the instructions throughly before starting.

 

the myford site does not show the upgrade for my 2016 as available yet....

 

I did this update back in October. Took about 30 minutes and the truck MUST be running the whole time the update is going on. Update went great without any problems.

The only problem was trying to report the update on Ford owner site. If you have this problem on the owner website reporting the update, do not worry. As soon as you can, run a Vehicle Health Report and the status on the owner website will be updated to show you Sync revision installed.

The 2016 may already have the update. You can check the status of your Sync on the Ford Owner website. My 2016 fusion came with it already installed

If not, Log into your account on Ford Owner site, click the Sync How Tos tab and then Check for Sync Updates and then on right side under you vehicle info click Full Sync History.

Yours probably came with upgrade

 

Trying to do it now but the preparatory work tells me I have to punch in my cell phone number to get a health report. When I do so it tells me that phone is already in use with another account (it isn't) and that if I continue it will disable the data already in the truck. Th only time the phone has been used is with this truck.

Any ideas?

 

Do you by chance have two accounts at Ford Owner website?

I would go ahead and update the number and let it delete the other one.

For those who have made the upgrade, I would suggest you DELETE your phone and then do a new fone install. This will INSURE the features of your fone are linked to the upgrade...

Turn off fone

Start truck, go to settings and delete your current fone

Turn on fone

Do a Find new fone and link it

 

FordIVTeam... 4.4 disabled the USB2 command without jumping through hoops to get it back on each restart. Any word on when standard Sync will be updated to bring that back? Thanks.

Yes this was added in the 8/19/15 update release and works nicely.
