So I downloaded it and installed it on my truck.
How do I learn what it changed?
When you log on to your My Ford site look at the updates and you can see all the changes made by the update. This one say Siri update, hold speaker but to for 3 seconds for a response from Siri to follow.
The update worked well for me, although it did in fact take 30 minutes. The screen goes dark a couple of times during the update for what seems like a long time - you just have to be patient and it comes back up and continues the installation. The new Siri function works as advertised, but is quite slow (3+ seconds of holding the steering wheel button). For me, it's just easier and faster to use the Home button on the phone.
Just wondering if I should bother with doing this update.
This is what the update does for you:
EA5T-14D544-AD
Siri® Eyes Free*: Now iPhone users can....
I dont use Apple products.
Secure, simple phone pairing: Phone pairing is now easier......
Automatic reconnection: If your phone disconnects, SYNC® with MyFord Touch® will automatically reconnect it........
Never had trouble pairing my Android phones. Never had them disconnect either.
Easier entry of destinations for China........
My truck will never be in China. LOL!
Are there any other benefits to the update other than those mentioned above?
My system seems to work fine. I worry that if it ain't broke why "fix" it and possibly cause problems.
My current version is EA5T-14D544-AB from January 2015.
That was a typo, it was supposed to say "China Buffet".
Yes you should update. Unless their software engineers are doing it different there are other changes embedded in the code. These are assorted minor bug fixes, maybe some tightening of the code for faster operations and a laundry list of items that we often change that are not in the 'new and improved' publish list.
In addition, you might have some issues down the road when they release another update of some kind...it may require you to go back and install the old update in order to install the new one, this is common! Going back and finding a 2 year old update often is not easy and your dealer most likely would not have it either.
Ok, I'll ask. What is China Buffet? I have eaten at several but I doubt that is of consequense.
LOL, JOKE!
If you have traveled across the US you will find there is a Chinese eatery in just about every city in every state. I was off the beaten path in SW Texas, passed thru a wide spot, no stop light, just a 4 way stop sign, combo Taco Bell and Pizza Hut and next to it a Chinese Buffet...

Ok but that defeats the purpose of being hands free and not looking or dealing with your phone while driving. It takes a little longer but the intent is to allow for safer driving instead of for quicker access. Not a bad trade off . . .
Or if you had an Android...all you had to do was say OK Google and you could do anything you can do with Siri....no Sync update necessary.
I see they fooled you too...there are about 8 current Android OS in widespread use, each one with different features and ways of use, the legacy base of Android runs into the 100's of systems.
43+% of all smartphones are based upon Apple OS, the other 57% is based upon over 100 different operating systems (Samsung is #2 with 26% market share)...

Bottom line is do it!
Makes sense. I'll do the update soon. Hopefully all goes well. Thanks.

I use a Nexus.... That's directly from Google, running stock Android. No modifications like you get with Samsung or LG.

I wonder how this will effect my Lock Pick. Holding the button for 5 seconds is how you enter the Lock Pick menu.... I can see it now, Siri and Lock pick arguing over who is going to tell me where to go....
