First let me say thanks for all you do and all the info you provide. This is my first old truck project and this site has proven invaluable.
I purchased this truck mid project and have redone everything the PO had started. Let's just say it wasn't up to my standards.
I have the cab, doors and front clip in paint and I'm starting to assemble everything.
Unfortunately, I have no point of reference as the truck was mostly apart when I bought it. I am installing the door components and have a couple questions. I searched the site and found some great info on most everything door related but didn't see an answer for these specific items.
I found out what fasteners to use based on this thread:
My questions are:
1. How many screws hold the vent window frames to the door? The window frames appear to have 3 holes but my door appears to only have 2 spots for screws.
2. My new DC vent window seals came with four screws (that appear to be proper size and style for install) and four brass rivets. Are these rivets actually spacers and do I use them with the 4four screws to install the window frames?
As always I appreciate your help. You guys rock!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I just did mine, those brass rivets are like a little sleeve that goes in the hole in the rubber and then the screw, guess that keeps you from tightening them down too tight. I can't remember how many screws mine had, but I know I had leftovers. Good luck.
I "think" there are 4; two on the angled part, one each top and bottom. The bottom one is right in the area where the shaft penetrates the seal, hard to see.
drptop,
If you go to the LMC truck catalog they show the assembly drawing for the door glass. Unfortunately it didn't show the screws or locations in that drawing.
For what it is worth I just pulled everything apart, sandblasted and repainted it. I used the new vent seal kit from Dennis Carpenter. A very good quality piece that fit spot on.
Pay attention to the pivot pieces as you disassemble so you know how they go back together. I found this FTE post helpful.
That's what it looked like to me as well based on the holes in the outer vent window frame and the indent in the new seal. The part that was throwing me off was that there was no hole in the door where that center screw should go. The metal brace is there but no hole where the previous screw was removed and I didn't do any repairs to that part of the door.
Maybe a lazy day at the assembly plant?????????????
I grabbed enough screws to put three in each side so I guess I'll just install the upper and lower and then drill for the center ones.
I know this is an old thread but in the interest of keeping the information in one place can someone tell me how the little brass grommets go in the rubber? See my pic of how i think it goes with the flange part of the grommet visible on the rubber
