What is missing from this speedo....

...and is this salvageable?

looks like the shaft from body has separated from a shaft on the pin. I’m holding them apart so you can see. The body shaft doesn’t appear to be hollow so I have no idea how these are to be joined. Or even if I could join them, if I could fix it.

It looks like the shaft has a dimple in it and the coupler has a dent to match. What yr is the unit from?

It's from a 1950. Not sure what you are referring to as a coupler, but is that the brass disk mounted on the sheet metal plate? The needle shaft goes through that. The body shaft doesn't quite reach the brass disk and the needle shaft does not slip into the larger body shaft. I'm baffled.

There's not a direct connection between the needle shaft and the cable shaft. The cable spins a magnet which pulls on a plate, causing the needle to move.

I realize the '53 speedometer is a little different, but the functional design is the same.

There is a hard connection (inside the collar indicated by arrow "B") between the needle shaft and the output shaft of the drum (indicated by arrow "A"). The magnet, or soft connection, is inside the drum. If I move the needle, the outside of the drum turns with it.

Again, this is a '53 speedometer so it may not be a definitive answer, but the design should be the same. Unless the needle shaft fits inside the drum shaft, I think you have a missing connector.

That is the pic I needed. The connector is clearly missing. Off to the speedo rebuilder.

Thanks for the pic.
