Hey guys, I'm having a bit of a cold start issue that I wanted to see if anyone had an idea if it is normal or something is wrong. I live in southern Indiana and it's gotten down to a VERY cold 50 degrees (lol) and the past two mornings I have started it up and it seems to have a misfire first thing in the morning and it will kick into high-idle mode and after I shut it off and start it back up about 20 seconds later after the ECT gets above 100* and it runs perfectly. It has brand new 190/100 injectors from Warren, an IDP tune, and I am running 13 quarts of FoMoCo 15w-40 oil with 2 quarts of hot shot stiction eliminator (tried it before installing new injectors). And also throwing no codes. Is this normal or should I be looking for a problem?
Ordered some Rev-X oil additive & Distance + Winter fuel additive & also picked up some Rotella T6 & a Motorcraft filter to change my oil sometime this week/weekend and see if that will help. I'm hoping it is just because I still have the 15W-40 in it but I wouldn't be surprised if it is something else.
check the output voltage of the FICM... shouldn't dip below 45v ever KOEO or cranking. Heard lots about Archoil 9100 for stiction, T6 5w-40, your on the right path.
Not that cold yet, plug it in overnight and see it is still runs like crap when you start it. That should make it smoother if it's stiction.
Next try using a hair dryer on the FICM before starting. If the hair dryer works well, FICM, if the block heater does the trick, probably stiction and some Archoil 9100 will do the trick if the Rev-x doesn't. You could try polishing the spool valves in the injectors but if the Archoil/Rev-x/Hot-shot secret doesn't really do anything.. replacing the injectors will.
Unfortunately there have been a few folks that have had issues w/ Warren injectors. From all the posts, he has been good to warranty any issues with them.
I will let you know how what I ordered helps or not.
and bismic, over on Powerstroke.org, everyone claims they are the best injectors to go with, kinda unsettling on my stomach to hear the opposite on here. haha. I hope they do have good warranty backing if there is a problem.
I know he has a great following on the Org, but there have been a few posts over there about bad injectors out of the box (as well as on other forums). All I know for sure is that newly rebuilt injectors should not have stiction problems - even with 15W40 oil.
IMO (learned from some very good people here) that not all injector rebuilds are the same. Casserly (Full Force Diesel) has the best rep with knowledgeable people here, but then his are not as cheap as Warren's.
Unfortunately funds & time did not allow me to get brand new injectors made into the 190/100s, I had to use cores they already had and sent mine out after I received my new injectors so obviously that could be a big problem... I guess I will have to see what happens after I change the oil. My old diesel teacher here at SIU said that it could be a problem with my tune so I will have to get ahold of Eric and see if I can get my tune fixed (one problem being that I did not specify my spill ports were plugged because Warren did not list that on their site).
I re-read the post... new injectors 190/100s... ain't stiction, I'd be looking at the FICM and then maybe a contribution test to see the injectors firing.
Threw me off because you say you ordered Rev-x, new injectors shouldn't have stiction.
I just thought while I was doing an oil change I'd go ahead and throw the Rev-X in there. Haha. And I will watch my FICM voltages. I read the codes with my Edge Insight CTS.

When reading your FICM main power numbers, just make sure that you are getting the readings with the motor STONE cold. You are looking for numbers in the 45-50 volt range. Anything less means that your FICM is in need of service, something that we'd be happy to help you out with if it helps you. We could even do one on exchange for you to limit your downtime and/or install a performance tune on it that will make you fall in love with your 6.0 all over again!
Let us know what you come up with readings-wise and we'll go from there!
I just had cylinder 1 have some problems and it turned out to be a bad intake pushrod for the cylinder but I never threw a code for that cylinder... that's what is confusing me about this problem. All 8 injectors were from reman's that Warren had received from past cores.

Here's the thing: they built the injectors from someone else's cores, they're not built from motorcraft reman's. Just give Warren a call and tell them you have a bad injector or 2 and I bet they'll warranty them.
