Big lope!

Yesterday morning when I started my truck it barely turned over but when it did it was really rockin' the boat. Like...brump, brump, brump, etc. The tach was rocking from 0 to 750. I gave it a little pedal and it cleared up. Didn't do it again the rest of the day and gave up no codes.
This morning, same thing, it sounds really awesome (5" exhaust to 6" stacks) and nasty but I know it ain't right. Anyone know what's going on or ever experience this?

I believe you are experiencing the cold morning "romps." How cold was it when you went to start your truck? How old is your oil? What oil weight/type are you using? Some guys have cured or lesson their romps by running a thinner weight oil (5W-40) in the winter.

Nope, not cold morning romps either. Sunny and 50.
Fresh oil as of Friday when we switched injectors. When we did the injectors, it was straight forward, this is not my first rodeo. The truck started and ran fine, I have not run the truck very hard yet, though, waiting til I feel like all the air is out of the hpop... could this be causing this?
Still no codes, ran KOEO prior to start-up this morning and nothing. KOER, nothing.

That is cold enough to do it. Remember, it sits over night.

If you want to be absolutely sure, plug it in. Mine will do it every now and then when the overnights get around or below 50.

57 this morning.
No codes while it's doing this?
I'm going to put off starting it until about 10 tonight, haven't driven it in a few hours so maybe I can simulate a 'night,' I'll plug 'er in around dinner.

I've NEVER had any cold weather 'romps' before. During the winter the thing was always plugged in and I'd start it with it in high-idle.

Sorry for the double post.

That is the way to check.

The only other time i got the romps is when I used an oil additive. It would do it on every cold start no matter what the temps.

Since then, i run straight 15-40 and my truck loves it.

No difference.
What now?

BTW, I run a gallon of Lucas, and 4 gallons of Rotella 15w 40.
Always have.
Changed almost monthly or +/- 6000 miles

, the additive I was talking about was lucas. I used a full gallon with that oil change and she romped everytime.

How many miles are on your oil? If its close enough, I say change it and forget the lucas. The problem will go away. I'll try and find the old thread where I discussed this problem with Dan.

Ha, here it is:

About 30 miles, but we changed it with the injectors Friday. Truck has 300,000 on it. 'Built' motor has a hair under 200,000 on the ticker. Maintained religiously. I'm stumped.

edit... Every oil change has been the same since day one on this truck with the exception of the motor build added capacity (oil pan and cooler).
Always one gallon Lucas, remainder Rotella.

Don't understand why it's never done it before.
Possibly air somewhere, with the injector change?
Should've all purged out, I don't run the factory fuel bowl.
Seem like an oiling issue?

Yes. It never did it before, because it didnt have the injectors it has now.

Change the oil, and then you will know for sure.

We've dropped the oil as of this morning, nothing but straight Rotella, now.
Been sitting for about 7 hours, I'll give it a whirl in a little while and see what happens.
I 'played' a bit last night and WHAT a change there is between stage 2 single shots and true 530's!
I'm gonna need a new turbo, the TN would never move enough air...
