Cheapo ICP sensor

I need to replace my ICP sensor and harness on my 03 SuperDirty with a 6.0. Has anyone out there tried an off brand ICP sensor? I see there are some pretty cheap ones on Rock Auto and on eBay. Can the Chinese make a decent ICP sensor? Just called my local Ford dealer and got a quote of 264 without the harness. Thats an additional 57 bucks. Seems a bit steep to me. I always run genuine Ford parts, but dammit.....

Cool! Thanks for the info. Is the picture accurate on your website? Looks like the later sensor that goes on the side of motor, not under the turbo...

Update to the later ICP sensor. More robust and easier to install.

A cheap sensor is not something you ever want to use for engine or emissions control. If you went through Ford's internal training for parts sales they will talk about how the Motorcraft sensors have a tighter spec then buying aftermarket.

Ford is not going to give out the engineering design for sensors. The aftermarket companies suppliers buy sensors and back engineer them to the output they see. But there are no rules that say they have to perform to any exacting detail so tolerances over the entire scale, just at the high end, or just the lower end can vary. If you want the vehicle to perform as intended, get the sensor from the dealer or vendor selling dealer parts.

There is another situation, though. Some sensors cannot be back engineered or manufactured less expensively then an aftermarket retailer chain can buy it directly through Ford or Fords supplier, so they do so and private label the part. To discover those you need internet sources to compare products to state, "Hey, it's the exact same part".

I have the $50 one from Northern Diesel. It's been in there for almost a year without a single issue. I keep a spare just in case.

I bought a cheapo one off Ebay (seller name was gadget*something*). Truck ran beautifully at start up, went down to the end of the street and it blew a hole in it, leaking oil out. The seller never even replied to me.

Bought another one from a diff seller and all is well, though oddly enough it does NOT run quite as beautifully as the one that blew did before it busted.
Like Thor said, I am getting another one just to have it on hand. Might even switch them out just to see if it will purr like that first one did.

Well I rolled the dice and bought one on eBay. 36.99 with the harness. The seller was up front and didn't try to pass it off as oem. Seller said the sensor was made in Japan which makes me feel better than if it was made in China. The seller "dieselpartsdirect" has a high user rating and is based in Southern California. Hopefully I don't get burned....
