I recently bought and installed an icp sensor off fleaBay for $40.
So far, so good, but I came across one thread and only one thread on the net about one customer who also purchased on fleaBay a "goldish" sensor only to have it "blow" out of the head taking the harness with it.
Word was that "knockoff" sensors tend to be gold in color as mine is however, it appears Delphi also makes a "gold" icp sensor.
I am wondering if I should do what I should have and go looking for a ford/standard/delphi branded sensor...?
I am picky when it comes to sensors. I would NEVER buy any sensor unless it came from FORD or International. In my opinion A cheap sensor is that, CHEAP! Some cheap sensors are not made to the exact specs as a Ford/International sensor. I have heard of people selling the Icp sensor for the Obs to people with a 99-03. The OBS has different threads that don't ingage properly and blow out of the head. I also have seen the OBS sensor sold with an adaptor to make it work. Mabe someone else knows about the color?
One of the other things you will sometimes find on eBay is an older style ICP sensor with an adapter to fit our heads. Much less expensive, IIRC, but when I got my extra unit, I chose to just stick with the lowest price Ford unit I could find. I paid $102 for part number F6TZ-9F838-A, brand new in the Ford packaging.
This one is gold in color, looks like the delphi unit. The threads seemed to be a match as it threaded in without any issue. Although the silver one in the truck did not set any codes, the truck's perfomance seemed to be noticeably improved - strating and acceleration. There was no thread adapter with this sensor. The cost was $40.00
However, I found a new Ford sensor on Amaz*n and picked one up last night for $130. I was worried about the threads.
