Auto Headlight Problem

Long time lurker, first time poster here. I have a 2002 F250 with the auto headlight option. Tonight as I was driving in the dark all of my lights went out for a couple seconds then came back on two different times. The first time i thought it was maybe just a bright streetlight or something but that is definitely not the case because the second time I was going down a dark highway. I switched my lights to the manual on setting after the second time and they never went out again. Has anyone ever had this issue before or have any ideas as to what might be causing this?

Nobody has any ideas? I really need to get this figured out. Did it again today. driving down the road at night, all lights go out for a couple seconds then come right back on. Headlight switch on auto.

Thought about that but i haven't had time to look into it yet. it only happens if the lights have been on for a while so I'm thinking something might be getting hot after they have been on for a while.

Good switches go bad when high resistance in the circuit elsewhere causes them to pass more current than they are rated for. They have built in circuit breaker protection. That's why they are flickering on/off.

Loose, or corroded connections and cables get hot. Replace battery and ground straps and cables to engine block, firewall, frame, etc. Cheap. It pays to do this. Grind down to bright shiny metal at the engine, frame and cowl mating surfaces and tighten securely

Measure voltage drop from battery posts to headlight connections and check to see if within limits.
