I know I know, yet another oil thread. I am doing my first change and had settled on Rotella T6 since we use Rotella in our company Kenworths. I read an older thread that claimed to notice inceased regens while running t6. Is this still the case? I am sure any oil changed when it needs to be is going to do just fine. If that still is noticed, I guess my 2nd choice would be Mobil 1 5W40 TDT since the 5W20 mobil 1 has been in the cars with good results. I have never used valvoline. So, has anybody seem mode or less regens with any of these oils?
When I switched to T6 from Motorcraft, I noticed a slight improvement. Slight as in, I gained 30-50 miles depending on driving conditions based on what I could figure out as I monitored regenerations. Obviously nothing amazing but I noticed I was making it a bit further. My regenerations were predictable and since I watch that stuff, I knew when something changed. Get the T6 whenever it's on sale and you will slightly reduce your oil costs as well.
When I drained the factory fluid at 5k miles and put in the T6, I didn't see a change in regen frequency. Having said that I now have 77k miles and still running T6 and I noticed around ~65k miles my regen frequency has dropped which is a good thing.
I agree with 69cj that any API CJ4 oil will be good.
