Oil Change

I know I have seen a thread about this but I don't have time to look. I got my EX a few months ago and it is time for an oil change. What should I get? Standard or Synthetic and pors and cons of each. I have never used Synthetic.

Depends on what engine he has. That thread is for the diesels. The gas engines react totally different to synthetic oil.

Synth costs more, lasts longer, will go to lower temperature extreme, and you can tell your friends you are running it. I use regular oil and mixed a bunch together I got at a garage sale last time............I didn't tell my engine though.

When I switched to synthetic, I had a burn rate of at least 3 times that of regular oil. I went from using one quart of oil per 5k miles to using more than 3 quarts. Not worth it to me. I just stick with the Motorcraft 5w-20 synthetic blend.

(195k miles and still runs great.)

I forgot about that minus and it's not the first time i have heard it. When they first came out with the synth (Mobile One) oil many years ago my first impression was " awful expensive and where does all that grime etc go in the extended amount of running time?) It really sounds like it is good for some applications but not worth it overall. Good for lazy people with a lot of money that don't want to touch the engine and good for the people that make it. I also have a feeling the profit margin is greater on the Synth, hence all the money dumped into the hype on it.

EXv10...What are you running in your V10? My EX is not a daily driver so it sits for a few days before being driven and when the wife does drive it she is not going far. Maybe 20 miles round trip.
