That's what my '51 will look like when I move the 1950 transfer case and hardware over to it. I'd much rather be spending time on it than on the other truck's cab. In due time I guess. Stu
Man, I couldn't imagine having more than one of these things to work on at a time! Looking from one end to the other and adding up all that needs to be addressed is sobering to say the least.But...Look at all the opportunities for progress. 😁
Well, the weather has gotten nice enough to get out in the shop and get some work done on Brutus. Brakes will be my focus for awhile. Today I put it up on jack stands, pulled the wheels and cleaned a bunch of spider webs and and what seemed like an acre or two of the PO's field that it was sitting in!!! I've got PB blaster soaking on the drums and keeping my fingers crossed. They look pretty good on the outside so I hope tha carries over to the inside as well. And now some pics...
Hold your tongue just right and cross your fingers that the insides of the front drums look as nice. I'm also impressed that none of the studs have been twisted off by an aggressive prior owner. Stu
At least I'm not hearing any grinding or sounds of loose pieces clunking around when I rotate the drums so that's encouraging. The ole' Hold your tougue just right technique, one I know well !!! Are there any other techniques to getting these old drums to let go that I should give a try? Especially on those front ones.
No, PB Blaster and patience. Tap tap tap. Make sure you've backed off the shoes. You can also pull the hub and drum together if you're impatient. Factory spec is .020" oversized. Stu
