Tires and wheels look good too. Looks like its ready to go for a ride. Fuel, spark, go! Worry about brakes later...
HAHAHA...My thoughts exactly!!!! I really want to drive it around for awhile before I start taking it apart. My wife's first impression last fall when we went to buy it was "What a Brute" so we started calling him BRUTUS, after the trip we just endured feeling somewhat beat-up and manhandled it's official...I give you " BRUTUS" my '51 Ford F3 Marmon Herrington !!!

I put pictures from the trip in an album titled " Bringing Brutus home ". For some reason I don't understand, the sequencing got all messed up.When I have some time I'll get it straightened out but for now take a gander and enjoy...my friend and I sure did! We were like two kids in a candy store!!! Here's a couple to wet your appetite...

In this picture the front of the fender has a dent in it. It looks too perfect to have been pushed in. Is that supposed to be there?

A couple years ago I saw what I assume was a F-2 or F-3 in the junkyard. The flathead was gone but otherwise looked mostly there. I wish I had the resources (time, money and space) to save it. I assume it got crushed. I don't know much about these years but would love to have one of these in my vehicle 'collection'. Watching your restoration.

Don't just assume it got crushed. If it's not too far from you go back and check on it. Heck you may be able to buy it and resell it or let people on here know where it is so it could be saved.

Hi Stu, It looks worse than it really was..thankfully...the torque multiplier made all the difference in the world. My new " Favorite Tool " by the way !!! On a side note, and we touched on this awhile back, I don't think I would want to try and put one of these wheels up in the spare tire rack when the bed of the truck is right there!!! Having said that, those things take up alot of room and there's no evidence of a side mount so......

Yup, they were real men back then. Darn spare weighs 100+ lbs, and has to be lifted up under the frame. I have no expectation mine will ever come out and be put to use. The real spare will be in the bed. One of my other project trucks has a side mount that would be a lot handier, but a guy would still have to lift it up over waist height to mount it. Stu

My4Fordtrucks, That dent isn't supposed to be there but it is an unusual one. I wish I knew what caused it. I would like to know the why's and what for's behind all the dents and scratches on that truck, what a life's story that would be!!!!

Stuff only stays around at that yard a couple months before hitting the crusher. That is where it went unless someone was able to buy it. Never seen a whole vehicle leave that yard that wasn't flat. Like I said, it's been a couple years.

Soooooo, I found some time today to play with Brutus and was messing with the accelarator linkage (V8), when I found the return spring hooked onto the temp sending unit. It almost looks like it belongs there. Could somebody please verify if this is correct or not ? Thanks

If you look close you can see it just hanging there

After some late night research it seems that the return spring should be hooked to the choke cable bracket, sounds reasonable but because of the modification to the spring to fit around the temp sending unit it's looking like an on the fly emergency fix to a broken return spring!!! I'll bet a new spring is in order.

Hi guys, well....I have some good news and I have some bad news....the bad news is (as always ) I don't have any pics to share this time , I know, I'm sorry...and by the way, if that's the bad news then in a way it's actually good news right? right? Ok, so the actual good news is that my engine is not froze up!! Had a few minutes to mess with it today and decided to chk and see if it was stuck or not. pulled the dip stick and to my surprise there was oil ,not sludge or molassas but real oil! I didn't have time to pull the dust cover to access the crank shaft bolt so opted to pot preasure on the fan belt and turn the fan blade to see if anything would move..nothing...fan just slipped on the belt...more preasure and tried again...THE GEN MOVED...maybe!!! Not sure but I thought it wiggled ever so slightly. At this point I'm pretty sure she's locked up tight so I grabbed a socket and breaker bar and put it on the gen to see if maybe it would turn and to my surprise when I pulled on that gen nut EVERYTHING turned!!!! Crank shaft, both waterpumps, generator, fan blade,EVERYTHING!!!! I did 2 full rotations and the second one was by hand for about 3/4 way, wrenched it through a sticky spot and finished it the rest of the way by hand.It felt very smooth and no grinding noises..I'm very excited and quite hopeful about a succesfull start up, wish me luck!!

That's big progress, Dave. An oil change (hopefully no antifreeze in it) and fresh gas and you may have a runner. Stu

Yes, very excited! There was no evidence of moisture on the dip stick and it didn't register as overfull so....we'll see what settled to the bottom here shortly. On a side note, I discovered that I too have a "Seuss " style exhaust system..I think GB would approve. HaHa. I'll post some pics on his thread when I get some.
