FMX

I have a 400 and fmx in 55 f-100 put in it has an ididit column. There is not enough room between the engine and firewall to use the tubular kick down tube I put it in gear and leave it in also once I am going down the road I cannot shift to lower or higher depending where its at at the time. Question is will the lokar shift cable work as well. In the future I am planning on replacing engine and trans with a 302 aod unit but in the mean time I want to drive it and enjoy. I know nothing about automatics so all help is appreciated .
Thank You

What is an ididit column? If stuff is that tight only you will be able to know if anything will fit. As for no shifting. Is the modulator line hooked up to vacuum?

FMX, ok trans, but as you may have found, not much performance support. A good trans shop with someone familiar with it could beef it up if needed.

FMX opinions and some references/sources:

Short version: In good condition, 400+ hp in stock form.

Back to the top--a 400 FMX block? Might be worth some money as it's a rare bird and the Pantera guys like them. Read on, search it out, and check that casting number.

It also means you could theoretically bolt up an AOD to that 400 if you wanted, or a C4, or any other SBF patterned trans.

the fmx was a good trans.if you start building up an engine for serious performance, just go with the c6 instead.
the 351m/400 shared the 429/460 bell housing/bolt pattern.
